The Aifugonian Federal Enforcement Agency, also called the AFEA, is the federal principal police and limited military police force of Aifugon. The AFEA was founded during the second session of the Transitional Council of Ministers, and is accountable to the current federal government. The AFEA operates in the usual parameters of a police force, though with the added purview of air traffic control, international operations and limited military action should unrest arise within the Federation. They are considered to be quite elite for the police force of a democratic nation, with mandatory three-year training for all prospective officers, paid for by the state, and nearly all of it taking place in other countries.

History

During the Aifugonian Civil War, the Aifugonian Police Service had largely broken apart, and was an ineffectual organisation no longer suited to the demands of law and order or peacekeeping. Many of the pre-war officers had joined either the military or had defected to join dissident factions and revolutionaries elsewhere around Aifugon. Once the war had ended and the true situation of the Aifugonian Police Service was understood, the Transitional Council of Ministers realised that a completely new police service was required. As such, the Transitional Council of Ministers opted to enact two laws on 20 April 2015 - the first approved the use of international police operatives within Aifugon, while the second approved the recruitment and training of a completely new police service to be undertaken within the next three years. In 2018, the Aifugonian Federal Enforcement Agency formally took over from the international policing effort of the prior three years. Currently, the Aifugonian Federal Enforcement Agency still has on its payroll a number of international police officers, as well as, in an advisory role, officers who had served in prior Aifugonian police services but had not taken part in the fighting of the Civil War, either for being too old or simply abstaining from the conflict.

Oversight

The AFEA is overseen by a joint commission of the Department of Justice, the Department of Civilian Protection, the Executive Council of Aifugon and a human rights regulatory body for Aifugon.

Recruitment procedures

The AFEA has a complicated recruitment process and requirements for potential officers. According to the standards of the Final Peace Accords, law enforcement officials are disallowed from having taken part in any civil or international conflict prior to their joining the AFEA, and vets them thoroughly for political alignments, especially in regards to nationalistic tendencies, and personality. There is also a substantial waiting list, due in part to the AFEA's policy of affirmative action in recruiting equal numbers of Kovats, Tispodans, Imojans and Bahds into the organisation.
