Otofu (pronunciation: /ɔtɔɸʊ/) is a city district in the oblast of Toşe in Yakormonyo. It served as the capital of the nation since 1565, replacing the old capital, Ony.
Etymology
The word Otofu came from 'Oto Upu'; Monyo 'oto' (water, colloquial) and 'upu' (of, archaic), together 'of the water'. Eventually, it was shortened and became 'Otofu'.
History
16th Century
Before 1515, Oto Upu (what it was called then) was one of the northernmost towns in the Yaharan Empire. When the Empire broke up, Oto Upu and its surrounding towns of Ävot (Avot), Äfukí (Aphucke), and Ítona (Ytauna) declared their independence as the Duchy of Otopu. It became the capital of Otopu until the nation united with the neighboring Duchy of Píxa (Pekha), wherein the capital was moved to Ony. On 1565, by order of Duke Xímí (Khemy), Oto Upu became the capital of the United Duchies of Peccy-Otopu, and both became Otofu.
