Tathangism(from the Hux Kham word Ta Thang, which literally means "(the) right way") is the mainstream philosophical view dominating the thoughts of the Hux Kham people, it characterizes the veneration of parents and ancestors, the obedience to authorities, stoicism, prohibitionism of alcohols and other psychoactive drugs, ultraconservatism towards sexual activities, hedonistic behaviors(including laziness, drinking alcohol, having sex with anyone that is not one's legal spouse or having concubines or more than one spouse at once), disobedience to authorities or not honouring one's own parents or ancestors is highly discouraged in tathangism and was seen as felony by the law in Hux Kham before 1848.

Despite having no mention towards god or supernatural, some people argue that it is actually a religion that features syncretism with local folk beliefs and all religious beliefs of foreign origin, and the contents of all foreign religions must be adjusted to be consistent with tathangism in order to be accepted by Hux Kham people.
