The University of Yksiö (Thuun: Yksiöän Aalkitto /yksi.øæ̯:n ɑ:lkitto/) or YnA is a combined university and technical college located within Yksiö, Uvanga. It was first established in 1927, and remains as Uvanga's only university.

Though generally regarded as quite good for its size, the YnA lacks many of the resources and course variety of larger, foreign universities. As a result, many aspiring students will choose to travel internationally for their studies.

History

Programs

The YnA specialises in arctic studies and engineering, which are considered of high enough quality to even attract international students.

Arctic studies

Given its location on the Arctic Circle, the University offers many courses related to Northern life, particularly in climatology, biology, and animal science. Though most of the University's classes are taught only in Thuun, the arctic studies college in particular offers a number of classes in Achiyitqan or other languages for the benefit of international or visiting students.

Engineering

The YnA's engineering college offers degrees in the disciplines of civil, geological, environmental, and mechanical engineering. All engineering students are required to take at least one course in Technical Achiyitqan. The course is intended to provide a basic comprehension of written Achiyitqan, such that students will be able to safely operate Achiyitqan-made equipment without exploding themselves.

Demographics

The student population is nearly 6700, which is projected to continue growing over the next few years. About 9% of registered students are from outside of Uvanga.
