Asota and Sebanon (Country [IPA]), officially known as the Crowned Republic of Asot-Sebn and often informally as Asota is a country located in Eastern Soltenna. Asota is bordered to the south-east by Mordar-Kovatia, and to the south by the disputed region of Solama and the Gulf of Sharkunen. According to the 2018 Census, Asota has a population of 43.5 million.

Etymology

The etymology of 'Asota' is debated by many linguists, however, it is believed that it comes from the now-extinct Vorelic - 'Had Soetha', meaning low-lying land.

History

The Sebnese people were a group of nomads in the Limve Delta region for thousands of years.

Princely State of Sebn

The Alotol Confederation in a bid to gain its own port on the Gulf of Sharkunen, invaded Southern Asota and established the land as a protectorate in the form of the Princely State of Sebn. It was originally comprised of all lands South of the Sebn river but later included former Lejomese territory administered by the ruling Kingdom of Setole. A prince from the House of Meln was installed as leader over the state. The state of Sebn remained in the Alotol Confederation until 1825 when the Princely State of Sebn and the Kingdom of the Asotans merged and formed the Kovat Kingdom of Asota.

Government

Asota is a semi-parliamentary system. The incumbent King is head of state due to Asota being the junior partner in a personal union with Liosol, however he lacks any real authority. His authority is shifted to the Prime Minister of Asota's unicameral legislature who is elected every five years following the model of the Alotol Confederation.

Foreign relations

Asota maintains friendly relations with most Soltennan Countries via the Soltennan Council. Relations with Mordar-Kovatia have become increasingly strained due to the Solama Land Dispute.
