Astalvis are unusual for mammals in that they lay eggs rather than give live birth, and are the only mammal species outside the monotremes that do so.
Astalvis are members of the [taxon] [taxonomic rank]. Like all [taxon], newborn astalvis remain attached to their mother through the umbilical cord and continue to receive nutrients for an extended period of time as they continue to develop, before it eventually atrophies and either falls off or is removed by the mother. This generally occurs about (3 to 4?) months after birth. During this time, the newborn is carried by the mother until it is able to cling to her on its own.

On account of their abilities to reason, process complex thoughts, and utilize spoken language, Astalvis are one of the [six?] extant species on Sahar which are recognized as legal persons by more than one nation.

Astalvi
Scientific classification
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Genus: Pacfelix

The Astalvi (Zveahe: p̃aqvel /t̼ɑqvɛl/) are a sapient species native to the islands of northern Nagu. They are often brown or black furred (occasionally with a slight purple tinge in black-haired individuals) and are generally shorter than the average human.

Etymology

The term "Astalvi" became synonymous with the species as a result of the fact that the majority of the citizens of Astalva belong to P. [placeholder] and vice-versa.

[insert more here later]

Habitat and population

Astalvis mostly live in and around Astalva, though they are capable of living in many non-arid climates as well. As of January 2017, there are over 40 million living within Astalva, [2?] million living in Lhavres and [some number] more in other parts of the world.

Biology
