Astalvis are members of the [taxon] [taxonomic rank]. Like all [taxon], newborn astalvis remain attached to their mother through the umbilical cord and continue to receive nutrients for an extended period of time as they continue to develop, before it eventually atrophies and either falls off or is removed by the mother. This generally occurs about (3 to 4?) months after birth. During this time, the newborn is carried by the mother until it is able to cling to her on its own.
