Bavkirak (Taara: Bavkïrak //), officially the Royal Republic of the Bavkirs, is a country located in northeastern Boroso.

Etymology

A legend from antiquity tells the tale of a large ship of corpses reaching the land of the gods. They had all died in a great storm. Upon arriving, the gods had pity on those who had drifted too far from where they had come, reanimated them, and guided them on their way to the great stone shrine on which the great Bavkïr temple would eventually be constructed.

As they had all died in a great storm, the name bestowed upon their progeny to refer to themselves was "Bav-kïr", "Storm Ghost". Appending the suffix "-ak" (place) onto the end of the name is a reference to the place on which the great temple was constructed, as it would become from then on the place of the Bavkïrs, where they would make their home from that day to this.

History

In approximately 1715, the Bavkïr empire, then ruled by the Żinǡ clan, became involved in policing the Taanttu sea during what is now known as "The Pirate War". Famous Bavkïr pirates such as "The Eagle", "Kyal Incarnate", and "The Spider" engaged in this war. In 1739, the Żinǡ clan's Bavkïr empire collapsed. We have a definitive date on the collapse of the empire because the vassal lords that were appointed by the penultimate emperor each announced their independence within the year, and proceeded to declare war on each other. The new lordships were established in approximately 1703, because the emperor at that time believed "That our vassal lords should be able to be self-sustaining." which effectively meant that they could function as independent nations. The "war" was more or less a stand-off between the many states for a long period of time.

The Bavkïr lords were: The lord of the islands, The Lord of Ṡavïr, The lord of the land of Xef, The lord of Ċilin, and The lord of Ïvo. The Taanttu lords were: The lord of Hayaf, The Lord of Ivo, The lord of Kerȩż, and The Lord of Þentak.

Many of the small islands in the Taanttu sea that were once under control of the old empire were taken after the collective world began to realize that the empire no longer existed. There were many casualties and temporary Bavkïr kings that would announce kingdomship over small parts of land, before being defeated and collapsing again. The civil war between the states would effectively run until the year 1942, when a Pirate lord from the land of Xef began to assert naval superiority over the lordship of the isles, leading to its surrender. The rest of the Bavkïr states quickly fell into line, and joined the pirate king's nation, while the states in what is now known as Taanttu continued their wars. The pirate lord, Sasan "The Conqueror", then announced to the outside world that it could "Screw themselves with their own half-mast". Sasan then closed the country to outsiders, started a pirate navy, and began profiting off of the ekuosian war during its length.

In order to remain detached from the pirates he instituted a policy whereby (1) none of the pirates were allowed to speak at all to the ship they were going to capture (2) No clan sigils could be brought on board in any way (3) The ship could only fly flags from foreign countries or the "Jolly Roger". What also helped the state-run piracy to go on in secret was because to the outside world, The land that was Żinǡ's empire was still filled with infighting states, and did not know that Sasan had united the south.

After the death of Sasan, the mantle of government was passed on to his closest relative, at the time being a man named Sina, who would modernize the nation, reforming the old kingdom into a constitutional monarchy. Sina died, and was replaced by his brother, Januça who died and was replaced by his son, Varig, the current leader of Bavkïrak

Biodiversity

Appearing in the tropics, Bavkïrak has a wide array of flora and fauna in its national borders.

Politics

Bavkïrak has four major politcal parties.

Government

Being a Royal Republic, there are only a handful of elected positions in congress, with another branch of the government dedicated to clan politics.

Administrative divisions

Foreign relations

Outside of the Taanttu sea and the nearest area outside of that, Bavkïrak in general does not have strong opinions in either direction. This is because of the civil war and the collapse of the Bavkïr Empire, leading to the successor states becoming more focused on the internal struggles rather than maintaining contact with the outside world.

It is a part of the Taanttu cultural alliance.

While, it maintains Its best relations with Taanttu, Haraku, and Tuanmali, it remains in good standing with many other states in Boroso and on the Taanttu sea.

Religion

Since antiquity, a form of Sidharkuv had been practiced in the region of modern day Bavkïrak when it was established in the belief structure of the ancient peoples. As a result of this, the religion has become intertwined with the Bavkïr culture and is reflected upon the modern society of the country. This blending of society and religion is key to Devotionism as it embodies the spirit of devoting oneself to the gods as a way of removing corruption from oneself to remain pure in the face of the adversities of life.

Early belief of the faith differed between tribes and clans as each tribe focused on different gods in the pantheon, and as a result the tribes would each behave in a way that would reflect this. For example, it is noted that tribes which followed the god of revenge and justice, Vanu, would only fight wars in retaliation to aggressive measures taken against them, while another tribe which followed Yarju, the god of health and blood, would be aggressive to all of its neighbors to give offerings of blood to their god, and to help them succeed in battle.

Eventually, as some of the largest tribal confederations began to consolidate, a new faith was born from the more civilized regions in the late iron age: Shavirsiid. Worship in Ṡavirsiid mainly regards the pure elements from Devotionism, Fire and Water, disregarding the other two. "The Faith of Light" as its called, places a high priority on the duality between impurity and purity than does Devotionism. Ritual cleansing is very important to one's faith in the religion with initiates being bathed in fire. The faith states that it is one's duty to rid the world of impurities.

Until the time of the great empire, both of the religions became prevalent in the regions dominated by Bavkïr influence. However, Tuur's religion followed what, by that time, become devotionism.

Symbols

The Eagle To the Bavkir people, the eagle has always been a majestic creature. It symbolizes honor, loyalty and strength.

The Raven Birds of the forest which pay service to Kiilrav, the god of darkness. However, Kiilrav is not a god of evil. Birds that live on the edge of what is the light, and what is the darkness, they are symbols of enlightenment and discovery, as well as curiosity for it is bridging the darkness to the light that brings new knowledge.

By the same token, however, they are the servants of Kiilrav, who is the shepherd of souls, bringing them from one realm to the next. As Ravens tend to descend upon corpses.

The Falcon A symbol of insight and preparation.
