Durykia (Duryk: Tıv Duryk [tɯv ˈdurɪk]), officially the Duryk Republic, is an archipelago country located in Northwest Miraria, west of Ngeyvger and north of Qgam.

Etymology

The word Duryk refers to the ethnic group of the same name inhabiting the Duryk Archipelago. Where the name was derived from is still uncertain; however, it is a possibility that it was derived from the word dulëh, "cold."

History

Prehistory

The Durykian archipelago has been inhabited by early Alpans at around 400 BC, as suggested through DNA evidence. Due to the significance of seafaring in Duryk history and culture, anthropologists suggest that the Duryks traveled to Northwest Miraria through marine transportation. The reason for their departure from Alpa is still currently unknown.

Geology

Climate

The country is usually hot during the summer, with temperatures peaking at about 28 to 30 °C (about 82 to 86 °F), and extremely cold during the winter, with temperatures reaching as low as −50 °C (about −58 °F). The east coast of Durykia is typically colder than the west due to winds picking up from West Miraria. Higher elevations are often warmer due to the effects of temperature inversion.

On low elevations, winters in Durykia are usually accompanied with heavy snow storms and strong blizzards.

Education

Education is one of the areas of notable accomplishment in Durykia, and has been of primary focus even since the arrival of Duryks from Alpa.

An of şëşyr da (literally, one who sprinkles/dusts knowledge) is a term for a teacher, philosopher, and traveler from the early periods of Durykia who enlightens communities across the country with information on what he or she has gathered, and usually taught in groups of other of şëşyr das. Being such a teacher was not a sole profession, however; several hunters, farmers, seafarers, and builders would hold regular community gatherings just to present what they have learned. Of şëşyr das usually grew more popular across the archipelago by travelling frequently around the nation and beyond it.

Cuisine

Duryk cuisine reflects the significance of the sea to their culture, and hence it mainly consists of seafood. Almost all the time, meals come with a roll of uru kađa zolë (sometimes just uru zolë), a fruit-, usually berry-, infused bread. Duryk cuisine is also influenced by Soltennan (primarily Qgamic) cuisine, and thus several dishes consists of dumplings and noodles.

Duryk plateware usually consists of square- and cube-shaped dishes that were meant to perfectly fill the spaces of trays and tables. Traditionally, a non-soup-based dish must be served on a square slab called pötöb ağ; nowadays, pötöb ağs have rims around the edges to keep food from spilling over. Typically, cold dishes are served on pötöb ağs made from wood, while stone slabs are used for warm or hot dishes. Soup-based dishes are served in bowls, with circular rims and square bases, laid atop pötöb ağs.
