Ribbon flags
Pre-Nordjaelm invasion, Dina traditionally used coloured ribbon as a means of signs - a factor in Dina's historical low literacy rate - and these ribbons were also used to notify trekkers of oncoming cities or villages. The colours and patterns on the ribbons are featural, meaning they display information on the settlement it represents.
In modern times, cities have been allowed to co-officially adopt their own non-ribbon flags, however the ribbon flag cannot be unofficial in that city due to Dina Symbol Association's Vexillological Preservation law.
Ribbon flags used to replace signs are still used for educational purposes and tourism, however post-independence Dina has began to implement signs with actual script.
City ribbon flags are composed of five coloured ribbons, divided into three sections: the ešmu (role), the skaagi (badge), and the fié (terf). The ešmu indicates its role as a settlement, the skaagi is a pair of colours the settlement uses to identify itself with, and the fié indicated the area that the settlement is situated on.
