Gushlia (Balak: Gucaran Guşaran [ˌgʊʃɑˈɾɑn]), officially the Great Khanate of Gushlia, is a sovereign state in Vaniua. With just over 32 million inhabitants the country is the X most populous in Vaniua. Gushlia is bordered to the west by Zinsha-Vogia, to the north by Komania, and to the east by Balakia. It is the homeland of the Gushli people, a Vaniuan ethnic group. The country's capital and largest city is the city of Zônamân. Gushlia is classed as a developing country, with a nominal GDP of around X and a GDP per capita of X.

The country has historically been inhabited by a number of different ethnic groups, and has had a long history with Iovism. The Vucheshians were the first recorded Vaniuan group to inhabit the territory which now comprises the modern state of Gushlia, with the Red Horde stretching into the western regions of the country. Following the introduction of Iovism by Terminian merchants from the Letsatian Empire in the 3rd Century AD, this state was reorganised into the Movtuth Kingdom, with the new kingdom and its successor states becoming bastions of Vaniuan Iovism for centuries thereafter. In the early 9th Century, the Kothlen Horde conquered the Vucheshian Iovist kingdoms under the leadership of Balâhak. In 823 Balâhak converted to Zarasaism and made considerable efforts to convert the Kothlenic populace, but these proved to be unsuccessful in the more poorly integrated western borderlands. In the Xth Century, the Great Horde conquered the post-Kothlenic kingdoms and khanates. Following the collapse of the Great Horde, a number of Gushli khanates rose to fill the power vacuum, chief among them the Rashtun and Qabashan Khanates, which would become rivals as they vied for influence over the other khanates. The efforts of the Great Horde and these successor states contributed to the eventual rise to dominance of Zarasaism in the region.

Etymology

The name of the country is derived from the ethnonym Koşlen, which in turn is descended from the tribe name Koþlen, referring to the Kothlen tribe. Following the conquests of the Kothlen Horde the term gradually saw increased usage by Kashisan tribes aside from the original Kothlens who migrated westwards into modern Gushlia and Komania, while eastern tribes started to refer to themselves as Balâhak, after the leader of the horde, the latter term evolving into modern Balâk.

History

Iovist Gushlia

Terminian Iovist merchants from the Letsatian Empire began to occupy and settle a number of coastal sites in central and eastern Vaniua throughout the course of the 2nd Century, particularly on the western shores of the Bay of Haraya. Among the largest of the Terminian settlements founded in the following period was Bandigus. From these settlements, Iovism began to spread inland and eastwards through newly created trade routes, melding with the traditional beliefs of the local Vaniuan populations in the process. Following the Vucheshian Red Horde's conquest of Bandigus and its surrounding territories in [year], the horde officially adopted Iovism before reorganising itself into the Movtuth Kingdom with Bandigus as its capital.

Kothlen Horde

X. The Kothlen Horde began to expand into the area of modern-day Gushlia in [year]. It was during this time that the first large-scale migrations of Kothlenic tribes, in particular the Huklen and [TBD] tribes, commenced, displacing contemporary Vucheshian populations.

Starting from the [TBD]th Century, the ruling Ashar dynasty commenced a campaign of persecution against Vucheshian and Kothlenic Iovists.

In accordance with the Treaty of X, the Balak Empire relinquished control of the constituencies of Qabashan, Vaghan, and Ogharan, while Komania relinquished Rashtun; these territories were unified into a neutral Vosan-protected buffer state, which would be the first unified Gushli state in the modern era. The continuity of the Qabashani Seğâren dynasty was recognised and upheld, with the first Khan of Gushlia being Denli I.
