Etymology

The name of the country is derived from the ethnonym Guşli, which in turn is descended from the tribe name Koþlen, referring to the Kothlen tribe. Following the conquests of the Kothlen Horde the term gradually saw increased usage by Kashisan tribes aside from the original Kothlens who migrated westwards into modern Gushlia and Komania, while eastern tribes started to refer to themselves as Balâhak naming themselves after the leader of the horde, the latter term evolving into modern Balâk.
