Herdek (Herdwate: Hêrdek, /ˈhɛɾdək/), officially the Kingdom of Herdek, is a country located in western Miraria, on the shore of the Sea of Alpa. Its neighbors are Qgam to the north, Karduv to the south and Chalyl to the north-west.
The name Hêrdek comes from the Proto-Methic words hərtə, Land and təndə, Moose, subsequently Hêrdek literally means Land of Moose. There are several hypotheses for the origin of this toponym. The most accepted one is the one that affirms that the first steady inhabitants of the territory founded the first city of the modern state in a location with a very dense population of moose (likely the south-central part of the Region of Chatek). Another theory affirms that moose were very important for the first settlers until Industrial Revolution, since they were an efficient mean of transport, that allowed goods and passengers to be transported to other cities, and also a source of food. Nowadays moose still have a great importance in Herdekian culture.
Herdek is a mostly mountainous land, with a mean elevation comprised between 500 and 1000 meters. Despite beng mostly mountainous because lands are over 600m osl, many flat lands can be found, creating uplands where towns were built. Mountains higher than 1000 meters can be found on the eastern part of the country, along the Qgam border. There are two large plains to the nort-western part of the country, along the Chalyl border, and to the south-western part of the country, along the westernmost part of the Karduv border.
There are many rivers in Herdek. The two main international rivers are Smaa River, that borns on the easternmost part of the country and flows into the Woĝ Lake, and the [name] river, that borns in Karduv. The main internal rivers are the Nîme River, the Meda River and the Shuntive River.
The main territory of Herdek is divided into 13 regions, each of which has its own capital and is subdivided into districts named after their main city, and districts into municipalities. Eventually, there could be also subdistricts or municipal districts, that are small groups of municipalities of second or third order (minor municipalities).
