Isata (Language: Country [IPA]), officially the Republic of Isata, is a country located in the Asura Ocean

Etymology

History

Arrival at around 900 AD. First contact with Canana at around 1000 AD, first written records with Canana at 1050 AD. Cananas brought glassworking and their sun religion, which was partly adopted into their original faith. Contact with Milhidia in 1100 AD. Colonized by Canana in 1622. Athsud took control in DATE. Balakia conquered and merged the two islands into one political entity and made into a protectorate. Independence granted in 1963. Very rough history that is yet to be decided.

Geography

Mapofisata.png

The Republic of Isata is an island nation that lies east of Milhidia and consists of 8 major islands and over 100 smaller islands in the Asura Ocean. The two archipelagos that make up the country are split in the middle by the equator running between them. The country boasts many volcanic high islands and numerous atolls. Mount Nhatuwa reaches 502 meters (1647 ft), making it the highest point of the country. Many atolls are scattered among the two archipelagos and very few people live on them, with the exception of the largest atoll: Upalai.

The country's islands lie between latitudes 2°N and 2°S, and longitudes 152° and 153°E. The distance between the north and south island chains is about NUMBER kilometers (NUMBER mi). The country is fairly isolated from the rest of the world, with its closest neighbor Milhidia being over NUMBER kilometers (NUMBER mi) away.

Geology

Climate

The islands' ocean-equatorial climate is extremely humid throughout the year, with an average temperature of 27°C (80.6°F). Though seasons are not really distinct, July through September is considered to be the cooler period. Tropical cyclones can hit during any part of the year but are more frequent December through April. Annual rainfall in Isata is about 4,200 millimeters (165 in).

Biodiversity

remember to add some sort of egg laying bird so the Isatese can do egg decorating

Politics

Government

Administrative divisions

The Republic of Isata is divided into seven different provinces between the two island chains. In the north there are the provinces of Sisulu, Ma'alikiwulu, Iwaulu, and Titimulu. In the south there are the provinces of Sulu, Laumulu, and Aikapati'ulu. Because the island country only has a population of 22,640 people, each province is named after the largest village within the region's borders.

Transport

In recent years the government has allocated more funds towards transportation projects. Construction on the newest freeway, the FR-7 (Federal Road #7), was finished in early 2018; connecting the towns of Laumulu and Aikapati'ulu on the Samahatila Island. The federal freeway system is considered unfinished and is unlikely to be finished without foreign investments. Only 1/4th of Isatese households own a car. The majority of locals travel by private boat or by the extensive federal ferry system.

There is only two airports in the country: the Kawiti International Airport and the recently completed Pilhai National Airport in the Ma'alikiwulu province.

Religion

(wip) A mess of syncretic faiths and beliefs adopted over the centuries and adapted into one under the overarching term of RELIGION NAME. The NAME movement, started in 2002, has gained popularity in Isata and rejects RELIGION NAME in favor of loose theism. The reason some follow this movement is because many Isatese realize that RELIGION NAME has borrowed so much from other religions that it has corrupted itself past the point of no return and the truth has long been erased by foreign religions being adopted.

Culture

Heritage

Note: The following is WIP and just random facts I've written to give flavor to the Isatese.

Pre-Colonization: Settled fishermen with little formal education where warriors rule and people are divided between the old and young. Superstition is rampant and religion plays a large part in everyday life.

Elders rule as leaders and their warriors make up the "nobility" of the tribe. Anyone has the chance to become a leader, as long as they become the oldest in the tribe.

The Isatese are extremely polygynous and males generally hold more power in a tribe than females. Males who have large harems are highly respected and prestigious. Polygyny is so widely practiced that there is fierce competition between males for a spouse. Most males do not have a spouse as there just isn't enough to go around, and as a result their bloodline dies out. It is uncommon that a tribe has only a few different bloodlines. When a male with a large harem dies, single males jump to take the dead's place and often brutal fights break out. Homosexuality is heavily frowned upon, but it widely happens behind closed doors among single males of a tribe. Females cannot practice polygamy and can only have one spouse at a time. Females are also extremely shunned from practicing homosexuality.

Gender norms are well defined and enforced. The father is considered the leader of the family, and to an extent the oldest relative as their "co-leader". The naming scheme is "First Name + Father's Last Name"

Living animals, incense, and cultural crafts are highly prized. The trading system is purely barter. Slavery does not exist.

Traditionally clothing is made of leaves, woven grass, feathers, and bark.

Traditionally buildings are made of wood and sand/clay/mud bricks.

The Isatese are highly skilled in many crafts, such as: wood & bone carving, singing, weaving, beadworking, glassblowing, and pottery. Fishing and melee fighting is also something they are very skilled in.

Traditionally blunt weapons, spears, fist weapons, and unarmed combat is used for melee fighting. Throwing spears and blowguns are used for ranged fighting. The greatest warriors of this culture are savage warriors ready to take on whoever or whatever.

Individuals are recognized as part of a specific tribe by their tattoos, masks, and their cloak/headdress.

The Isatese practiced sports, nudism, crafts, music, warpaint, mating dances/courtship ceremonies, and ritualistic singing & dancing. They believe that traditions should always be kept the same and that justice should always prevail. Instead of in-ground burial the Isatese practice burial at sea.

The Isatese were known as savage warriors, fine crafsmen, and very greedy. The Isatese generally ignored foreigners and instead kept to themselves. Foreigners often had mixed feelings on the Isatese. Rather than wait for an attack to happen, the Isatese keep their enemies in check and on their toes by attacking first, even if they had no real reason to.

Architecture

traditional wooden stilt villages usually over water or even within the tree canopy. Keeping the wooden stilt houses, the Isatese adopted much of Canana's architectural style after being colonized by Canana. Irl that means Isatese polynesian style mixes with Canana's japanese & javanese style. Stilt houses raised above water with a traditional japanese house on top. make example drawings later
