The Kingdom of Szezkia (Szezk: Чяжедял на Шещкиа [ˈt͡ɕä.ʑɘ.dʲäɫ nä ˈɕɛ̝z̻ˤ:.kʲiɜ]), commonly known as the KS, or also sometimes as simply Szezkia, is a semi-constitutional monarchical federation of four state territories, encompassing the Szezk mainland peninsula protruding into the Gulf of Ishenar from the Alcia region of Midwest Baredina, the Concordia Special Administrative region, and the islands of Niofe and the Szezk Offshore Ishenar Territory, both off the coast of Isugza. It covers an area of approximately 84,050 square kilometres (32,450 square miles), has a warm mediterranean climate, and is mostly flat, with the highest point of land being less than 1500 metres above sea level. The Kingdom of Szezkia’s coastline measures 3284.3 kilometres, and its only transnational border, spanning a length of 197.2 kilometres, is shared by the Szezk mainland with Norjihan, which has long contested its territorial claim. The population of just over 34 million comprises mainly ethnic Szezks, albeit with notable populations of Native Niofeans and Oszetetis in the south of Niofe and the east of SOIT respectively. The Kingdom of Szezkia's capital and largest metropolis is Avdjereg, a global city, with a population of almost 10 million making it the most populous city of the countries in the Alcian Union.
The land of modern-day Szezkia and Norjihan has been inhabited by the predecessors and descendents of various Northern Xhovian tribes for at least 90 millennia, making the Szezk one of the oldest ethnic groups on Sahar. The Kingdom of Szezkia itself, however, was not a sovereign nation until the Szezk rulers of Norjihan were overthrown in Govegz Rona's coup. Independence of the Szezk Monarchy from the tribal system of early-medieval Norjihan was established in 1307, following the Battle of Avdjereg in 1306, which took place where the modern capital is situated. The Kingdom of Szezkia has a history of armed neutrality, having never itself started a war, although, as Avdjereg is the location of the Alcian Union's international headquarters and the International Congress' South Baredinian headquarters, it is responsible for much of the international diplomacy of the region, including the management of and response to conflict.
The Kingdom of Szezkia is a semi-constitutional autocratic federal monarchy with a partially democratic legislative parliament: the King or Queen has executive authority over the government, although is limited by a constitution which prevents abusive actions and handles the transfer of power in the Royal House. The Szezk Royal Family have, throughout history, been predominantly looked upon favourably by the populace, and so the constitution is relatively unobtrusive. Duties such as lawmaking are usually dealt with by the Senate, the official prereogative of which is to support the royals in political and governmental affairs. The Senate is divided into two chambers, of which one is comprised of elected county-representatives; political parties identify ideological affiliation of candidates, and vote amongst themselves to elect a 'President' as the head of government. The monarchy has the right to veto this position, although this has never happened, and would likely cause significant political unrest if it did.
Being a Xhovian country, the KS' population consists predominantly of people from the Szezko-Xhovian ethnolinguistic group. The culture of Szezks is generally very different from that of neighbouring Norjihan’s, the main difference being a nearly total absence of Tanhunga religious practices, which play a large part in the Norjihani way of living - the majority of Szezks in modern society are irreligious, however Xhiuism is still very popular, and as such the royal family are, for many, not only the figureheads of the nation, but also spiritual life. Most people work in the quaternary and tertiary-service sectors, facilitating strong consumer and military technology, finance, and tourism industries, which are the main driving forces of the economy.
The Kingdom of Szezkia is comparatively very developed, with the second highest HDI in the world, at 0.927, the third highest GDP per capita in Baredina, and the sixth highest GDP per capita in the world. It ranks at or near the top globally in several metrics of national performance, including in areas such as civil and economic liberties, quality of life and life expectancy, although is infamous for its use of the death penalty, legalization of cannibalism, and parental-licensing system.

Etymology and Terminology
The Szezk are known to have referred to themselves as /çɛzgiː/ and various evolutions thereof for the past millennium. The word 'Szezk' is essentially a corruption of the surname of the Szezk royal family, 'Seczki', which has been retained by the monarchy since the first records of the institution's existence. The origins of the name itself, however, are unknown.
In 1307, the Kingdom of Szezkia was declared as a sovereign state, seizing the land of modern-day Szezkia from Norjihan, following the Battle of Avdjereg - the Norjihani government's official stance on the recognition of the KS is, even up to now, that it is not a sovereign state, despite the conflicting view of the international community. At the time of its founding, 'Kingdom of Szezkia' only referred to the Szezk peninsular mainland, as, despite being almost solely populated by peoples of the same ethnolinguistic subfamily, neither Niofe nor SOIT were under Szezk rule, falling officially under the jurisdiction of the Mahadran Kingdom. 'Szezkia' had been used as a name for the peninsula prior to the country's gaining its independence, in reference to the high population of ethnic Szezks living there during times of oppression in early Norjihan. The Szezkia peninsula is believed to have always historically been more densely populated by early Xhovian tribes than further inland areas, owing to its warmer climate and richer agricultural prospects; the high concentration of Szezks remained in face of later Baredan migration into now Norjihani land, and, ultimately, virtually all Szezk people attempted to flee to Szezkia from Norjihan when tensions reached a high and the nations separated.
The term 'Szezkia' is sometimes used as a synonym for the Kingdom of Szezkia, especially by foreigners, however its blanket-use can be contentious for some Niofeans and Oszetetis; the Szezk government exclusively uses 'Szezkia' to refer to the mainland peninsula. The adjective 'Szezk' is, however, officially used to denote anything pertaining to the KS, except when specifically in reference to either Niofe or SOIT. As its use is generally ambiguous, 'Szezk' has no definite legal connotation, but its wider sense is employed in Szezk law in reference to matters such as nationality.
The Kingdom of Szezkia comprises three main federal states, and an additional special administrative region.
Szezkia is the largest federal state, spanning the entire Szezk peninsula, and, with the official designation as the 'capital state', is the administrative jurisdiction where the seat of the KS' government is located. Szezkia is the only Szezk state with a land border, and the only division encompassing disputed territory; the Norjihani government does not recognize the KS' independence, and claims that Szezkia's land is rightfully theirs, though Norjihan is the only country to hold this view. Szezkia has the highest population of the Szezk states, and, with an HDI of 0.952, is Sahar's most developed nationstate.
Avdjereg-Concordia Joint Special Administrative Region
The Avdjereg-Concordia JSAR, also known as Concordia for short, is a special Szezk sub-region in downtown Avdjereg. Its administration was delegated to the Qonklese Imperial High Command as a diplomatic token by the Szezk government with the authorization of the King, in an attempt to encourage trade activity by Qonklese companies which, through their Avdjereg-based offices, have already catalyzed the establishment of a significant Qonklese diaspora in the district.
Niofe is the southernmost and largest of the two Szezk island states, located in the Gulf of Ishenar. Niofe has a cooler climate than Szezkia, and is more industrially- and agriculturally-focussed, with large mining, petroleum and farming sectors. The majority of the island's inhabitants are of mixed Szezk-Niofean ancestry, though many people wholly of Niofean ethnic descent have remained in more segregated Niofean-speaking communities on the south of the island. The official languages of Niofe are Szezk and Niofean. Niofe was originally inhabited almost solely by people of the Oszennic Xhovian-ethnolinguistic subgroup, though many were displaced during the period of Szezk colonization; some Niofeans were forcibly resettled to Settia as part of the emerging Szezk-operated slave trade in the region in the early fifteenth century, however modern interracial relations in Niofe are typically good.
Szezk Offshore Ishenar Territory
The Szezk Offshore Ishenar Territory is a small island state off the coast of Isugza, due north of Niofe in the Gulf of Ishenar. With just over 300,000 inhabitants, and an area of 1,912.2km², SOIT is the smallest Szezk state both in regards to population and territory. The native Oszetetis who once comprised the majority of the population have since been diminished in numbers by the settlement of Szezk ethnics, however a high concentration of Oszeteti people remain in communities on the east of the island. Public transport services are less developed than in Szezkia and Niofe, with transport infrastructure mainly constituting roadways, though the island itself is accessible by airport, ferry and subaquatic tunnel, and both a large military airbase and a naval port have been established by the KS government to facilitate operations further south in the Ishenar and the Isugza region. Oszetet is designated as an official language in the region.
Settlement by anatomically modern humans of what was to become the Kingdom of Szezkia occurred in waves beginning approximately 90,000 years ago. By the end of the region's prehistoric period, the population is thought to have belonged, in the main, to a culture termed Insular Westen Szupic, comprising the majority of the modern Norjihani and Szezk territories, which later spread south to Isugza. Xhovian peoples were effectively the sole inhabitants of Norjihan for thousands of years, though this changed after the final wave of Baredan migration which saw the arrival of the predecessors of modern ethnic Norjihani people.
