Liosol (Alotolec: Loseulla or Loseulladeu), officially the Sovereign Kingdom of Liosol (Alotolec: Sanimyn Délyn Loseulladeu), is a country located in the region of Soltenna in Miraria stretching from Lake Soltenna to the Gelög Sea. Encompassing most of the former historical Region of Alotolla, Ryoseulla is one of two nations that speaks the formal language of Chanlosol but also uses Lithian as the basis for most international media.

Etymology

The name "Liosol" comes from the words "Layo Setole" which means "New Setole." There have also been claims that the name of "Soltenna" comes from a misheard form of the form "Setole." These claims are backed up by the existence of the massive Alotol Empire.

History

Early Kingdoms

Setole

The Kingdom of Setole, which was founded by the Ngonh (or Yonh) Dynasty circa 400 BC, is thought to be the earliest Alotol settlement, stretching from modern-day Alotol City to Lake Soltenna. The Ngonh Dynasty fell after the assassination of the king by Ngonh Gollan, his own son. After Belfan (Alotol City) was taken from the Kingdom of Setole by the Kingdom of Layo, Lanothi was established in the North as the new capital of the Kingdom of Setole.

Lao Ngonh

Lao Ngonh, or simply Layo, broke off from the Kingdom of Setole in 121 BC, inhabiting the lower Alotol River and modern day Alotol City.

Pseudo-Sitr Kingdom

Alotol Empire

In 1253 AD, the Kingdom of Setole (the largest of Northern states) established itself as the Alotol Empire. As time went on individual state joined the Imperial Confederation and created "Goncha" or "The Wall" as a defense against the invading Western powers. Attempts to reach out to vassal states such as Hux Kham ultimately failed in this early period, although the nation did manage to liberate some of the North of the country.

The Charter

In a last attempt to keep its imperial legacy in tact and to help its "most favorable neighbor", the Alotol Confederation entered into an union with Methinaqh known as the "Charter for Economic & Cultural Cooperation in the Two Noble Kingdoms."

Liquidation of the Confederation

In 1803 AD, after the 550th anniversary of the confederation was celebrated nine referendums were held to decide the fate of the country. It was argued that states could exit now that the Imperial Age was over, but some of the early states now felt tied, politically and culturally, to Liosol. A few countries left, but most of the empire retained her former territory. The Alotol Empire had devolved into the Kingdom of Liosol.

Interregnum

After a military coup that killed Anthola the IX occured in 1831 the kingdom entered into an interregnum period. Every political faction fought over the future of the country until it was decided that a central monarchy could no longer work. While the nation was a confederation it worked well because there were multiple kings conveying in a court and there was no central place of power. After thinking long and hard the government decided a parliament would be wise as a somewhat feasible replacement to that system. A monarch[2] and prime minister[3] were elected together in the year 1840.

Military

Liosol currently has one of the biggest military budgets in Miraria. Although the government does not publish documents detailing the military, it is rumored the nation has upwards of 530,000 active servicemen, and between 400,000 to 600,000 in reserves.

Liosol accepts Hux Kham citizens to join the military forces of Liosol; however, in practice, only females in Hux Kham join military forces of Liosol, as Hux Kham law bans males from serving in foreign military forces while there are no regulations for females.

Population Centers

The Doellen

The three cities of Banelkang, Lanothi, and Alotol City are the most visited areas of Liosol, garnering in an average of 12.3 million tourists a year. Collectively the government and the people of Liosol refer to this area as the "Doellen" or "Triangle".

Banelkang

Believed to be the first Alotol settlement in upper Soltenna, the ruined city of Banelkang now serves as a fascinating peace of archaeological evidence. This area does not boast a great population as the other two cities in the Doellen do, but it makes up for it in the amount of scientific endeavor that are undergone there.

Lanothi

Lanothi's nearly five million[4] residents are known for their great knowledge and devotion to their country. Once known as the "intellectual capital of the middle kingdoms", this city is home to the largest library in Soltenna and, possibly, Sahar. Lanothi is also well known for the large amount of expats living in it and it is often referred to as "Soltenna's City".

Alotol City

Alotol City boasts both the title of capital of Liosol and the highest population center with a population of 7,392,684. This city is referred to as the "seat of government and the arts", since most officials and La Pop singers live here.

Ethnic groups

Alotol

The Alotol makes up the biggest portion of Liosol's ethnic groups. The name originates from the Chanlosol words for 'the people.' Roughly 63% of Liosol identifies with this group while in reality, only about 48% of the population is true-blood Alotol.

Sitr

The Sitr are people who inhabited the west-southern regions in prehistoric times. They built some city-states in ___ BCE. Rietic peoples entered (Southern) Liosol later on, and they co-existed with the ruling Sitr. Given Rietic influence, as they [the Alotol] became the ruling class in c. 600 BCE, change gradually happened and Sitr got (partially) assimilated in terms of culture into the Alotol society. Some values of Sitr culture were carried over to the culture of Ryoseullans.
