The earliest permanent settlement in Lugida dates back to 3rd millennium BCE, when Rietic peoples settled near modern-day Meruthe. Civilization in Lugida only began to flourish in the 6th century BCE with the Nellia dynasty. In the 1st century CE Letsatian Empire conquered most of coastal Lugida from the ruling Altha Dynasty, subsequently introducing significant Ekuosian influence in the region and with it more advanced technology. It also led to the end of the dynastic era in Lugida with the adoption of a monarchy system modeled after the empire. Its remains later grew to become the Avite Empire, bringing a Lugid-originated form of Iovism known as Avism and spreading its influence to parts of Soltenna.
Pre-Rietic peoples originating from north of the Thedoka River began to inhabit Lugida on around 15000 BCE. Earliest permanent settlements were founded in 3000 BCE along the highlands of Shebite River, and Rietic peoples founded the earliest known settlement in 2000 BCE on the Heartland. Civilization in Lugida began reaching prominence later in the 9th century BCE with the Nellia dynasty. The 1st century CE saw the Letsatian Empire conquering much of coastal Lugida from the ruling Altha Dynasty, bringing with them their culture, bureaucracy, technology and Iovism. It also led to the end of Lugida's early dynastic period. As Soltennan Letsatia fell apart in 188 CE its remains rose to form the Avite Empire, whose territories and influence spread across most of the eastern half of Soltenna at its peak. During this time a form of Iovism called Avism was founded and spread across Lugida.

The Forian Confederation was founded in 1146, comprising parts of modern-day Lugida, Kadya, Xynderland, and Riyana, later becoming the Forian Kingdom, one of the dominant naval powers of Sahar in the mid 16th to early 18th centuries, before the conquest of the Kingdom by Melunair in the 1730s, which led to the Forian Exodus and subsequent collapse of the Kingdom. In 1868, following the Lugid Revolution, the first Republic of Lugida was formed and a period of industrialization began. Imperial Lugida led by Aten Kate seized power from the Republic in the 1930s, subsequently joining the Unity in the Great Ekuosian War until the Empire fell to Allied powers in 1949, governing Lugida before being handed over to the Republic in 1954.

A founding member of Fordas and the Soltennan Council, Lugida benefits from its highly educated and skilled workforce. Centralization and the large domestic market characterize the economy of Lugida, whose nominal GDP is the world's 4th largest, resulting from the post-war economic growth that began in the 1960s before ending after an economic recession in the 1990s. Lugida is one of world's largest exporters, mainly exporting automobiles, electronics, machinery, and refined steel.

Lugida boasts a well-preserved traditional culture descended from the culture of the Rietic peoples, who are characterized by its extensive cultural and spiritual use of flowers such as in flower hvoir and Lugid art. Culture of Lugida had substantial historical influences from Qonklaks and the Letsatian Empire. High personal freedoms in recent times led to the rise of Lugid popular culture such as L-pop, Lugid animation known as miko, and the video gaming industry spearheaded by popular titles such as Seeker of Light.

Lugia includes both the Lenthirites and the Melunes, who are ethnically different but share common cultural traits with each other. The demonym's usage dates back from as early as the mid-18th century during the Melune period, when desire for Lugid unification arose, and became popular among the Lugids through Lugid revolutionist movements on the mid-19th century.

Ancient Lugida
The history of Lugida begins with the founding of Meryth Dynasty, which according to the founding myth was founded on 1242 BCE. At its peak, its territory spanned much of the upper half of the Shebite Basin. Archaeological evidence found in sites at Merituk and Melir hinted a founding date of 880 BCE. Meryth Dynasty is widely regarded as the archetypal nation of Lugida due to its size and historical power.

Central and Northern regions comprise the southern part of the Rietic Basin, which is part of the now-merged Rietic Plate. The southern Lugid coast is an active convergent boundary between Rietic and Akulanen tectonic plates and accounts for a large majority of major earthquakes on Lugida. Notable earthquakes on the area include the one near Eldin on 872 CE, the 1376 earthquake in (tbd), and the 1730 Raushire earthquake and tsunami. The latter of which is estimated to have a of magnitude 7.2 and may have been one of the driving factors of the Forian Exodus.

Environment
Environment
Rapid industrialization after the Great Ekuosian War, combined with the downplaying of environmental policies by the government and industrial corporations, caused environmental pollution to be widespread. This was until 1971 when the Great Smog of Natlia occurred, sparking protests in the city to instate a stricter environmental policy. At the same time, the enforcement of these policies drew concern from the second dominant, right-wing (some political party), stating that the strict laws will cause the Lugid post-war economic boom to a halt.

Amidst conflicts from within the Lugid Parliament, Anor Matei's administration passed and enforced the environmental policies a year later. Among these policies include the formation of the Natlian green belt, closure or refurbishment of industrial facilities along the Lithe and Melon rivers, and increased funding for public transport construction.

Lugida is a presidential republic. Executive power is vested on the Executive Office, consisting of the President and Vice Presidentem dashserving as both head of government and stateem dashwho appoints and dismisses members of the Cabinet. They are responsible for domestic and foreign policies, approving passed legislation, appointing governors, as well as enacting Executive Orders. As a unitary state, power is concentrated in the central government. The President is elected by popular vote every five years, the last one being held in 2018.
The legislative body is the Assembly, a unicameral body consisting of 300 popularly-elected assemblymen and women. The Assembly is charged with deliberating and passing legislation, and has the power to motion officials of the Executive Office including the President. Should a motion is passed in a two-thirds supermajority against the President, he/she would either resign or dissolve the Assembly. As with the President, an election is held every five years, which was not held at the same day as the presidential election until 2003. They are voted through closed-list proportional representation. Currently the three largest parties in the Assembly are Democratic Lugida, For the Nation, and Justice Party.

Lugida's coastal metropolitan areas account for a great majority of the country's economy. As of 2015, Natalia alone has a gross regional product of $800 million, almost a third of the national GDP. The city however has high population density and real estate prices, which meant that startups and smaller companies now often place their headquarters to other large cities such as Eldin and Radot. Several cities began building new business districts to accommodate increased demand of business spaces outside Natalia. One of the most notable of which is Melot Gan, a business district within the city limits of Eldin aimed primarily at tech companies and startups.

Economic growth of Lugida is characterized by centralization of growth to the densely populated Annamidan region spanning from Natlia to Kenasha. As population density and real estate prices start to rise significantly in the region by the late 20th century, businesses were encouraged by the government to reach for cities outside the region. Kirna, Theres, and Hammoir experienced more rapid growth during this period, but centralization remains nevertheless. This centralization of growth was described by President Felufre Kirne as "a product of hard capitalism". Opposed to such capitalism, Felufre's administration introduced the "equalization" initiative in response to encourage decentralization of economy, stimulate growth in less developed areas of Lugida, and reduce national income inequality. This brought attention and concern from within the Lugid government whose majority party is mostly composed of right-wing socioeconomic elites.
One other effort by the Lugid government in an attempt to distribute growth is the Inner Lugida Development Program (ILDP). Spearheaded by the former president Hefeir Minachi, the project aims to stimulate growth by using Lugida's national budget to develop economies of smaller cities as well as certain sectors such as agriculture, under the premise of reducing the country's relatively high income inequality . This program has been met with mixed reviews, with criticisms often concerning the ILDP's overall impact to the Lugid economy.

Economic history
Economic prowess of Lugida dates back to the 17th century during the reign of the Forian Kingdom. Amidst fierce economic competition by Veridia, the Bavkir Empire, and the Algazi League, it secured its position as a global thalassocracy, dominating trade in Soltenna. Forian wealth is driven primarily through the kingdom's rich deposits of natural resources and control over some of the former Terminian trade routes. Its status as a regional trade power was severed in (the 1700s) after the Kingdom's navy was severed as an impact of the Great Pirate War, ultimately leading to its dissolution in 1731 after being conquered by the Kingdom of Melunair. The conquest, in addition to the 1730 Lumine earthquake and tsunami, prompted a mass group of Forian economic elites to flee the Kingdom. Brought along with them are their wealth, consequentially draining the local treasury, breaking down Forian trade routes, and stagnating Lugida's overall economic and technological progress.

In (near 1800s), Shohuan invaded a portion of Lugida with financial support from former Forian nobilities. Part of the Lugid coastline eventually fell to Shohuan and the invasion concluded with the Treaty of (). It grants Shohuan control over the cities of Natlia and Kitlimis, in addition to the opening of Kirni. Industrialization of Lugida began in these cities, recovering its economy. Melunair under the King of its time (somebody) dissented industrialization in its lands, stating that "it would bring harm to the environment by massively tearing down trees and polluting many rivers". Lugid Revolution eventually overthrown the Melunair government and the First Republic of Lugida was formed, spreading industrialization and the concept of market economy throughout the country. Enterprises and other organizations began to be founded in this period. Lugida's economy at this time grew at a steady rate before it slowed down in the 1930s and was heavily severed during imperial rule and the succeeding Great Ekuosian War. The war also severed Lugid infrastructure and part of Natlia and Kitlimis, opting Shohuanese funding for the country's rebuilding.

Lugida shares part of its indigenous traditional culture with Riyana and Kadya. Their culture was described by anthropologist Galem Jivenifre as "flower-affectionate people", citing the prevalence of flowers in Lugid culture. Ancient era dynasties of Qonklaks and the Letsatian Empire respectively brought substantial Qonklese and Ekuosian cultural influence into Lugida, mainly through conquest, trade, and interaction, as largely exemplified through Lugid architecture. Rapid industrialization and urbanization in recent years brought significant changes on the lifestyle of the Lugids, where it led to concentration of populace to major cities such as capital city Natlia, Kitlimis, Kirni, and Dalshabet, for a largely economic motive. As most parts of Lugida outside the Lithe, Hetaf, and Thugint rivers are mountainous, most of the urban populace live in densely populated apartments, with multi-generational households typically living as a nuclear family.

High contrast between the simplistic nature of Nellian architecture and the complex, ornate Forian architecture characterized the architecture of Lugida. Masonry is sparingly used in certain building foundations, roads, places of worship particularly sermets, and city port areas. Lugida, officially the Republic of Lugida (Lithian: Misrudere yLeidniya [ˈmisrudərə ʔɪˈlɛhɪt̚nijɐ]), is a unitary sovereign state located in Southern Soltenna. Comprising the western half of the Sharkunen Gulf basin and briefly part of the Amiyant Sea basin, Lugida is bordered by Kadya and the Rietic Mountains to the west, and Xynderland to the south.

Comprising an area of 453,783 square kilometres (175,207 sq mi), Lugida's population of 78 million is Sahar's 14th largest and Soltenna's 3rd largest. The capital city, Natalia, is one of the leading global cities, whose population of 11 million ranks 1st in Lugida and 10th in the world. High levels of urbanization led to a distinctive urban lifestyle of the Lugids. The highly urbanized Heartland alone has as much as 30 million residents – more than one third of the national population.

The Forian Confederation was founded in 1146, comprising parts of modern-day Lugida, Kadya, Xynderland, and Riyana, which later became the Forian Kingdom in the late 14th century. A thalassocratic kingdom based in Natalia (and to some extent Dukrone), the Forian Kingdom was one of the dominant naval powers of the world on mid 16th to early 18th centuries, before conquest by the Kingdom by Melunair in the 1730s caused the Forian Exodus and brought down the Kingdom.

Centralization and the large domestic market characterize the economy of Lugida, whose nominal GDP is the world's 6th largest, resulting from the post-war economic growth that began in the 1960s before ending after an economic recession in the 1990s. Lugida is one of world's largest exporters, mainly exporting automobiles, electronics, machinery, and refined steel.

Lugida boasts a well-preserved traditional culture descended from the culture of the Rietic peoples, prominently characterized by their cultural affinity to nature and flowers, such as with hvoir and Lugid art. Culture of Lugida have had substantial historical influences from Qonklaks and the Letsatian Empire. Lugida also has a thriving popular culture, boasting L-pop, animation (miko), film, and video games – with prominent titles such as Seeker of Light.

History

Ancient Lugida

The history of Lugida begins with the founding of Meryth Dynasty, which according to the founding myth was founded on 1242 BCE. At its peak, its territory spanned much of the upper half of the Shebite Basin. Archaeological evidence found in sites at Merituk and Melir hinted a founding date of 880 BCE. Meryth Dynasty is widely regarded as the archetypal nation of Lugida due to its size and historical power.

Geography

Lugida comprises part of Southern Soltenna on the Sharkunen Gulf basin between latitudes 30° and 41°N and longitudes 5°W and 5°E. The country shares borders with three countries. Golan and northern Rietic Mountains form the border with Kadya. Separated by the (name) Strait, Lugida shares maritime borders with Xynderland to the south.

Lugida is divided into three geographic regions, each having differing climate. Northern region comprises parts of Lugida north of the Shebite River, whereas Central includes the Rietic Mountains and the area south of the Shebite. Western region comprises the area west of the mountain range. These regions are generally defined by their river watersheds; Shebite-Regil rivers for Northern, Lithe-Nan for Central and Romit for Western.

Geology

Mount Lenthir as seen from the Lenthiri highlands. The mountain has been considered as one of Lugida's national symbols.

Mount Lenthir, a now-dormant stratovolcano formed through volcanism during the early Cenozoic era, is located in and comprises much of southern Rietic Mountains. The mountain's last geologically recorded eruption takes place in 10,000 BCE. Also in the mountain range is Mount Metni, famed for its depiction in Melune art and its eruptions as currently the most active volcano in Lugida. Mount Metni's notable eruption in 1860 is known for causing widespread crop failures and ultimately contributing to the Lugid Revolution.

Climate

The climate of Lugida varies greatly from north to south. Natalia—as with most of Lugida—experiences a humid subtropical climate with an average daily temperature of 26.3 °C (79.3 °F). On the other hand, northern portions of Lugida including the cities of Chitra experience a continental climate with an average daily temperature of 17.9 °C (64.2 °F). Small patches of Mediterranean climate are present in Amiyant Sea basin cities including Nurkaila and Dan Khikuri.

Lugida has an annual average precipitation of around 1,100 mm (43 in), with higher values as high as 2,000 mm (79 in) observed near Merituk. Conversely, the topmost parts of Mount Metni are the least precipitated region. Northern Lugida experiences annual snowfall, while in other areas, snowfall is much rarer and occurs irregularly every at least four years. 36 percent of Lugid lands are arable, most of which are located in the Mairune Plains and the highlands of the Rietic Mountains which hold around 44 percent and 21 percent of the arable lands, respectively.

23rd President

Lugida is a presidential republic. Executive power is vested on the Executive Office, consisting of the President and Vice President—serving as both head of government and state—who appoints and dismisses members of the Cabinet.

Administrative divisions

Lugida is divided into 35 prefectures each overseen by a governor and a prefectural parliament (with few exceptions), which unofficially comprise the six regions of Lugida: Heartland, Shebite, Tenten, Melunair, Kruhail, and Tashere. Natalia is designated as mixed capital city-prefecture under direct control of the central government. Of the other designated prefectures, six are urban prefectures, and three are special prefectures with greater autonomy; Melon Prefecture has the Council of Melon in place of the governor. Prefectures are further divided into municipalities of different terms including districts, towns, cities, and wards.

Lugida with its mixed economy has the world's 5th largest nominal GDP after Lhavres, Nevira and Letzia, identifying it as a high-tech, developed country with an overall high-income economy, primarily attributed to the post-war economic boom in the mid-to-late 20th century. The service sector, including in particular tourism and entertainment industries, comprise an estimated two thirds of the country's gross domestic product.

Adoption of new technology in Lugida goes at a rapid pace. Lugida is home to some of the largest and most technologically advanced manufacturing companies in Soltenna and perhaps the world, producing electronics, steel and nonferrous metals, and machinery, benefiting from the country's highly skilled and educated workforce. The two largest Lugid companies Starling and TV Corporation are conglomerates with a significant manufacturing subsidiary, specializing on consumer electronics and machinery respectively.

Floral industry in Lugida is Soltenna's largest, driven by high domestic demand for use in gardens, hvoir, and religious ceremonies, with Chitra and Merituk boasting the country's largest flower markets.

It grants Shohuan control over the cities of Natalia and Eldin, in addition to the opening of Kirni. The war also severed Lugid infrastructure and part of Natalia and Eldin, opting Shohuanese funding for the country's rebuilding.

The rebuilding programme came to be known as the (some programme), incorporated along with the Lugid government's massive reforms over government funding, education, and certain policies in order to rebuild the country's economy and overall infrastructure. Lugida recovered its economy rapidly and started a period of economic boom in the 1960s.

Energy

With an installed capacity of around 8,000 MWe, the Rainu Nuclear Power Plant is Lugida's single largest power plant. As much as 62% of the country's electricity is derived from nuclear power.

National Electric (Lithian: Ethe Firet), a majority state-owned company, produces the most of Lugida's electricity, which also exports some of its electricity to Fordas states. Since the 1980s the country has invested heavily in nuclear power. Other sources of electricity include petroleum (11%), liquefied natural gas (10%), hydroelectric (6%), and coal (4%), the remainder of which derives from other renewables.

Demographics

Population

Lugida's population of around 78 million is the world's 14th largest. Most of which are concentrated along the Midan metropolitan area spanning along the coastline from the capital city Natalia to Eldin. Consisting the majority of Lugida's population are the two indigenous, Rietic ethnic groups, Melunes and Lenthiri, the latter being politically and culturally dominant. Riyans, Xynden, and indigenous minorities such as ()s and ()s comprise the significant minority groups of Lugida.

Religion

An Iovic religion, Avism is Lugida's largest organized religion, adhered by 41.2% of the Lugid population according to a 2012 report. The religion is a syncretism between Iovism and indigenous religions particularly Lenthiris' Rubism and Melunes' Zelism. In the same report, thirty percent of the population declared themselves irreligious or unaffiliated to any religious organizations. Out of all recorded places of worship in Lugida, 61 percent are sermets, 11 percent are Rubist temples, and 7 percent are Zelist temples. Other than these religions, Pashaists compose the largest religious group, followed by Orthodox Iovism and Pauegism.

(something) is the Lugid native religion with 9% of the population declared themselves as affiliated with. Later surveys in 2015 suggested the number might be higher, estimating as much as half of the population who declared themselves unaffiliated as adherents of (something). Its history dates back as far as 3,000 years, historically being the state religion of pre-Letsatian Lugid dynasties, most notably the Altha Dynasty.

Avism was introduced to Lugida through Letsatian rule in the 2nd century CE as a form of Iovism, incorporating elements from native religions and cultures. Subsequently, the Avite Empire and the later Forian Kingdom missionaries spread Avism throughout Lugida and parts of Soltenna, superseding the predominant native religions and thus making the religion dominant in Lugida ever since. Adherents began to stagnate and decline since the Melune rule, but numbers increased since the 1970s partly due to status of Avism as the de facto state religion since then. However, adherents are expected to decline in numbers for the following decades due to a steady growth of the amount of the religiously unaffiliated population.

Language

With few exceptions, Lugid society is overall linguistically homogeneous with Lithian, a Merythic language, being the first language for as much as 81% of the population. Lithian features a subject-verb-object word order with minimal case marking, having a direct morphosyntactic alignment; the subject and the object of a sentence is always unmarked. It has official status in Fordas and the Soltennan Council.

One such exception to Lugida's linguistic homogeneity is the Melune language, spoken by around 4 million people (2015) in Lugida and is co-official with Lithian in Melon Prefecture since 1981 although were the court language of the Kingdom of Melunair. Melune's official status originated from an increasingly popular Meluneist movement and increased awareness of minority languages through efforts by Lugid Academy of Languages. Due to this, bilingual, Lithian-Melune signage in Melon Prefecture is not uncommon and is mandatory in transport signage, and products of Melon Prefecture origin often incorporate Melune language names or even bilingual text.

Languages in Lugida including Lithian are written using the Forian script. Derived from the Letsic alphabet, it was first introduced through contact with the Letsatian Empire and some of its successors and such writing was found to be dated from as early as the 8th century. Since its introduction the Letsic and Forian scripts has gradually replaced the (something) logograms, derived from the Qonklese script, now serving a more limited use such as in traditional settings and Lugid folk temples (Tem).

Foreign languages popular among the Lugid population include Riyan, Xynder, Shohuanese and Terminian; the latter two were historically prevalent as languages of trade. According to a 2015 report, Riyan has the highest proficiency among Lugida's foreign languages with the score of 16%.

Culture

Lugida shares part of its indigenous traditional culture with Riyana and Kadya. Their culture was described by anthropologist Galem Jivenifre as "flower-affectionate people", citing the prevalence of flowers in Lugid culture. Ancient era dynasties of Qonklaks and the Letsatian Empire respectively brought substantial Qonklese and Ekuosian cultural influence into Lugida, mainly through conquest, trade, and interaction, as largely exemplified through Lugid architecture. Rich and vibrant culture of Lugida allowed its city Chitra, as promoted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as "the floral Eden forged by time and culture", to be SESCO's regional hub of Soltenna and West Miraria.

Rapid industrialization and urbanization in recent years brought significant changes on the lifestyle of the Lugids, where it led to concentration of populace to major cities such as capital city Natalia, Eldin, Kirna and Raushire for a largely economic motive. As most parts of Lugida outside the Lithe, Shebite, and Romit rivers are mountainous, most of the urban populace live in densely populated apartments, with multi-generational households typically living as a nuclear family.

Art

Traditional Lugid art was heavily influenced by Qonklese art and Iovism, as seen in many traditional paintings, sculptures, and mosaics. Popular subjects of traditional Lugid art include locations such as Mount Lenthir and Hetaf River, people such as Iovi and Gamilami, and plants such as cherry blossom trees and hvoirs. Many art styles and media were used from ink painting and woodblock prints to (some style) paintings. Forian period saw its flourishing, which at the same time is when it began to draw numerous foreign influences acquired through trade.

Modern forms of Lugid art came into fruition from the late 19th century. (some style 2) as a term to refer the art style associated to and popular in Lugida was coined at that time, later to be the foundation of modern Lugid art. Lugid animation pioneer Hana Futikata coined the term miko to refer to his distinctive (some style 2)-derived art style. He used his miko art style frequently in his animations, and as popularity arose, (Lugid comics) adopted the art style and the term became synonymous with Lugid animation.

Miko art mainly revolves around elements individually called suki. Most notable of suki are Mai and Khai, which are also used in non-miko contexts. Mai is the value of cuteness, loveability, and innocence, often associated with young people including teens and children. It originated in the early 1980s when miko began to feature elements that is then associated with Mai such as through large eyes and high-pitched voice. Such miko began to be popular among children and teenage women. Values of Mai can be applied to animals and objects. Khai has a broad meaning, roughly defined in English as "being cool", as it encompasses the superlative value of visual attractiveness not covered by mai, in particular values of beauty, elegance, and handsomeness. Unlike Mai, the value of Khai is commonly not applied to animals and objects; such instances are rare. Sexuality is covered in a different suki called (something). Associated with dafu and romance miko, Khai miko comprises many of the most popular miko titles. Mai is more prevalent in L-pop and on Lugid mascot drawings.

Architecture

High contrast between the simplistic nature of Nellian architecture and the complex, ornate Forian architecture characterized the architecture of Lugida. The vernacular, Qonklese-influenced Nellian architecture makes substantial use of wood as building material, ingrained into the old Lugid tradition of carpentry. Masonry is sparingly used in certain building foundations, roads, places of worship particularly sermets, and city port areas. Arriving during the Forian Empire rule, the heavily Ekuosian-influenced Forian architecture makes substantial use of ornate masonry, with buildings made primarily of bricks. One ornate example of Forian architecture is the Archphitra of Midian.

By tradition, buildings have a harmony with nature. Open spaces are of important value and gardens are common in Lugid houses. However, rapid population growth in certain cities such as Natalia challenged architects who want to balance it with the traditional philosophy of "harmony with nature". In addition, urban buildings within a certain radius from hvoir are built to be oriented towards it. A historical example is in (city), where buildings are arranged in grids with the hvoir garden as the center.

Structural and ornamental complexity of the house determines its owner or keeper's social status; commoner houses are often simple in form and have small sizes, sometimes built as a house divided into a series of houses, while upper class houses often have large open space, accompanied by its complex construction and presence of household hvoir. Countryside upper class houses are often smaller compared to urban upper class houses in favor of boasting large gardens whose plants can be sold. In addition, these houses often feature extravagant gates, sometimes resembling that of temple gates.

Entertainment

Lugida has a thriving entertainment industry that spans from miko, films, video games, and popular music known as L-pop. Benefiting from high domestic consumption, entertainment industry contributes to a significant amount for the economy of Lugida. A phenomenon called Chime (from Lithian Chimen meaning "the flow") has influenced neighboring countries placing Lugida as a major soft power.
