The cuisine of Nagu involves several major regional cuisines: Central Naguan cuisine, West Naguan cuisine, South Naguan cuisine, North Naguan cuisine, and many more. Nagu, being a large and populous continent, has many local varieties of various cuisines and dishes. Some of these share characteristics with one another, however, since the beginning of the 20th century many of these cuisines have been introduced or re-introduced to various cultures. Ingredients that are common and native to Nagu include: taro, banana, cocoa, sugar cane, chilies, jambu, amaranth, and peppers. Frequent methods of preparation include but are not limited to: grilling, stir fry, smoking, steaming, and deep frying.

While bananas are common to Naguan cuisines, different varieties are popular depending on the region. Phakora is an exceptionally popular dish in Nagu and appears in some restaurants abroad. Phakora has its origins in Cananganam, with several varieties existing to appeal to the palate of tasters, being a staple of popular street food which Nagu is known for.

History

South Nagu cuisine

Baba na cha is a Cananganamese chicken dish grilled or smoked in banana leaves and flavored with garlic and banana oils

Cuisine in southern Nagu are generally rich in spices, however, these flavors usually cater to a multitude of cultures in the region. Food is usuaully flavored with various chilis, peppers, fruits, and other herbs and spices. Southern Naguan cuisine is usually described as a rich, spicy sweet flavor.

Most dishes are cooked with either coconut oil or peccary lard, though with the introduction of cheaper import oils, beef tallow has become more frequent in more expensive dishes to add rich nutritional flavor. Vegetables are usually eaten within amaranth wraps which both are frequently steamed fresh to add flavor.

Unlike many nations outside of Nagu, coca and its refined powder form is not an illegal narcotic, and is a frequently enjoyed source of caffeine. Coca teas known as putre are usually enjoyed in the early to mid day, akin to coffee in other cultures. Egg yolk is also an occasionally enjoyed as a drink, and is sometimes flavored with amaranth flour, cocoa, or bananada.

Common meats include chicken, seafood, and peccary. Shellfish are taboo cuisines and so don't see consumption like much of the outside world. Beef is less common than regions like Vaniua due to it being an import. Smoked fish, including aqua-farmed alligator gar, are of exceptional popularity, along with chicken.
