New Komy (X: X [IPA]), officially the Grand Republic of New Komy, is a country located in Northwest Ekuosia. The country is bordered on all sides by Galadros, and is one of the few city states on Sahar. The city once served as an important trade hub in Western Ekuosia, as it is surrounded by a natural harbor, and is situated within the bay of X; this position allowed the city to prosper and develop for centuries, and was protected from attack by the sea and its large fortifications.
The city emerged around X as a local trading hub and somewhat significant city, detailed accounts of this period are mostly lost due to a fire that destroyed much of the early city. The city later became part of a growing network of mercantile republics in Low Letsatia, bosting it's trade income and X.
After the fall of the Terminian Three Kingdoms, the city state began to gradually expand its holdings, mostly through diplomatic treaties and joint deals made between cities. This resulted in its formation as the Grand Republic of New Komy, and began to expand its influence and territorial holdings by way of trade.
By the 16th century, the Grand Republic had expanded it's influence enough to become a major power both navally and diplomatically in Northwest Ekuosia, drawing the ire of the nearby Grand Duchy of Galadros. Throughout the 16th century, and especially after the Galadrosi inheritance of Kedros, the two powers would butt heads over power and influence in the region. Despite both being in the Commonwealth of Low Letsatia, several wars would break out between the two countries, with the most notable being X.
