The Peace of Galadrosia was an event during the Letsatian-Vaniu Wars that ended the war in a decisive victory for Vaniu's tribes and marked the end of colonization of Vaniu by external forces for several centuries. The battle led to the death of Galadros and the majority of his army with estimates as high as 95% of his army being slaughtered as a result of an intentional poisoning of the Letsatian army by the Vaniuans in their surrender.

Background

As the Letsatian Empire expanded, it had desire to move northward. After their conquest of Akulunen, the Letsatians moved their gaze eastward to the region of Vaniu. The region had only minor settlements and a mostly nomadic culture which the Letsatians had believed made them no threat as nomads had been encountered before with little issue.

The Letsatians made landfall on the coast of Vaniu with colonial intentions in 148 CE, establishing the settlement of Bothania. The territory was later named after its founding settlement and begun trading with Vaniuan natives as well as adopting some into Letsatian society to help interpret the Vaniuan languages and conduct diplomacy with tribes.

The southern coastal Vaniuans were welcoming of the Letsatians as they were a potential ally to help protect from the ever growing interior tribes which held more territory than their coastal counterparts. However, as the coastal tribes soon realized that Letsatia's large scale of agriculture led to a decline in their own land, they turned to the interior's main tribes of the Lianasians, the Huonians, and others.

As soon as they had received guarantees of peace, the Torxikit united the local coastal tribes against the Letsatians garrison at Fort Tyldarán. This event in mid-176 had begun the Letsatian-Vaniu Wars.

Prelude

As the war commenced, Galádrós Brážto was appointed commander of all forces in Bothania. He led an expedition northward and defeated the coastal Vaniuans along the West coast however he soon came into conflict with the Vaniuans of the Interior.

Through knowledge of the coastal tribes he defeated the interior Vaniuans in several battles defeating the Vaniuans but never decisively. Eventually, after the battle of Colking, Galádrós achieved a victory against the two major tribes of the region.

Surrender to Galadrosia

The Vaniuans were considering migrating north and east to avoid surrendering to Galádrós, but one member of the warrior caste, Huulongkhwipsong ordered his men to grab as many kaxu fruits as possible from the local trees along the Melkanchuta River and to join him in offering a tribute to the Letsatian commander.

Huulongkhwipsong and fifty men approached the camp of Galádrós and offered their surrender of tribute to the Letsian army. Galádrós was cautious, believing there to be a trap if he and his men left his camp's palisade, and so requested the Vaniuans enter the palisade without arms. The tribesmen had abided by the commander's order and done as told. The fruit was inspected upon their arrival inside the camp and many soldiers, fatigued from the march days before, indulged in the fruits. Galádrós thanked the Vaniuans for the tribute and agreed to begin heading south within a few days time. Galádrós ordered a messenger and an escort to bring the news south to the colony's capital to spread word of his success.

Battle

As night time set in, many of the garrison began to suffer the effects of the Kaxu fruits and begun to have difficulty breathing. As soon as the effects were realized by the awaiting Vaniuans, they charged into the gate of the palisades. The battle was a massacre for the Letsatians who were inhibited by the fruit's poisonous effects. Galádrós himself was affected by the fruits and was captured early in the fighting. The Vaniuans had the palisades surrounded and the gates blocked and as fire and conflict spread throughout the camp the Letsatians had few who managed to escape the walls to safety as the Vaniuans slaughtered most of those who attempted.

Within an hour, the Vaniuans had killed most of the garrison and took most of the Letsatian leadership prisoner. However, Kjilšozú Najas, a close confidant of Galádrós who refused to partake in the fruits, escaped and quickly set off to Bothania to inform its citizens of the massacre.

Aftermath

The battle ended in a decisive Vaniuan victory, halting Letsatian expansion in Miraria. However, Huulongkhwipsong's planned siege of Bothania failed to go according to plan, as Kjilšozú ran across the messenger resting in a field twenty kilometres north of Bothania and informed him of the slaughter of their commander's army. The two immediately rushed back to the city and informed the colonists to prepare for a potential siege, which began a day later when the Vaniuan tribesmen reached the gates of the city.

With warning of the Vaniuan army's arrival, the colonists successfully held out, though only barely. The massacre of Galádrós's army and subsequent severe loss of territory in Vaniu convinced Emperor Madrandas to abandon support for Mirarian colonization. In the meantime, the Bothanians reclaimed minor amounts of coastal territory, most notably Galádrós's birthplace of Brážto, before the withdrawal of colonial forces was completed, setting what would be the borders of Bothania for the next few centuries.
