The Presidential War was a war fought in eastern Vaniua in the early 19th Century between the Kadhan Khanate and an alliance of the Republic of Hamawan and the Zwazwan Empire. It was provoked by the assassination of Khamv president [pres name], which was orchestrated by the Kadhani government and royal family as part of a failed attempt to seize the leadership of Hamawan, and the subsequent refusal to give [idiot name] the presidency.

Background

Beginning shortly after the collapse of the Great Horde, a rivalry began to develop between the khanates of Kadhan and Hamawan. This rivalry grew stronger with the embracing of Balak culture by the [dyn name] dynasty of Kadhan, and the eventual transition to republicanism undergone by Hamawan. In the early 19th Century(?) [khan name] of Kadhan declared his intentions to normalise relations with Hamawan after centuries of mutual disdain. A backdoor agreement between Khamv presidential candidate [pres name] and the Kadhani royal family guaranteed Kadhani support for her campaign in return for marrying into the [dyn name] dynasty. [pres name] won the presidential election in spite of concern from a growing number of Khamv citizens that her royal marriage would lead to a loss of Khamv sovereignty.

Two years into her first term [pres name] was found to have been poisoned. An initial enquiry cast the blame on an extremist anti-Kadhan group(?), although suspicion was raised when her husband [idiot name] announced that he would claim the leadership of Hamawan, under the assumption that it was possible to do so just as with regular royal successions. This claim was rejected by the Khamv parliament on the basis that he had not been elected to the position, with ex-Vice President [vp name] being named as the next president instead. Following this rejection Kadhani leadership threatened war with the republic, but [vp name] refused to resign, taking the liberty to remind the royal family that a republic does not function in the same way that a monarchy does. Thus, on [date], Kadhan declared war and began an invasion of Hamawan.
