The River Rone is a major river in Norjihan. It has played a major role in its history, with the Bridge of Tears playing host to 3 seperate battles, in 780, 1247 and 1701. The River is the main river of the Ronig Basin, home to 12,000,000 people (40% of the Norjihani population) and 71,000 km2 in area; the basin is home to Ronig, the second largest city in Norjihan. The river itself is 433.62km long, rising in the Ronig Highlands
History
The River Rone is believed to have been a stronghold of the Fisherman Culture that existed in prehistoric Norjihan, believed to be related to Xhovian Peoples who were indigenous to South Baredina. Not much is known about the Fisherman Culture or their presence in the valley. The main valley of the Rone was quickly occupied by the Baredan Peoples, becoming the southern barrier of the Mahadran Kingdom. It was home to the 'city' of Dzabatel, the ruins of which still can be found today near the modern town of the same name. The valley became a major centre of trade, with trade posts and ports set up all along the river. Thus, it was the most disturbed by the War of Brothers, a series of wars between rival claimants to the Throne of Mahagrazh. The valley was also raided extensively by Norjihani tribes from c.650 onwards. This was part of the general chain of events that led to the Adzamic Invasion of Norjihan by the Holy Adzamic Empire. The river was home to the 1st Battle of the Rone, a pivotal battle in the Invasion at the site of the modern Bridge of Tears where the Mahadran and Tribal forces of around 5,000 were able to hold off a force of around 13,000 by using the natural defences of the river within the Ronig Highlands. Ronig, the biggest town in the Basin, was the location where the last Mahadran king Gwunei died, being wounded in the battle, signalling the end of the Mahadran Civilisation as a major force.
The valley recovered being under the control of the Ronig Tribe, and again emerging as a centre of trade, although in never recovered to its Pre-Adzamic heights. The city of Ronig on the river became the largest city in Norjihan, with the King at Ronig essentially being the de facto King of Norjihan until the Battle of Ronig in 1094 saw Ronig defeated by the Vomeja, based in Hajenired. The river, and the Bridge of Tears, was home to yet another Battle during the Ekuostian Invasion of Norjihan at the Battle of the Rone (1247), which say a complete rout of the Ekuostian forces following a flood of the river, with what was left of the army being trapped in the Pass of Mashii. The bridge was home to one last battle in 1701 in the Norjihani Civil War between the House of Lodina and the House of Ronig, who had ascended to power once more due to Govegz Rona. It led to Lordinal dynasty becoming Kings of Norjihan.
Modern Geography
The modern river and basin form the main population zone of Norjihan, with it being home to 12,000,000 people, or 40% of the total population. Beginning in the vast Ronig Highlands in the east, it crosses across the country, passing through Tuuhajen, Ronyg and Tel Duvemuz along its path, 3 of the largest cities in the country.
