Etymology

From Atruozan vüzë ("ten") + säđä ("seven") + -böj (construct state). This, effectively "ten's seven", was an older and now-antiquated method of saying "seventeen" using an obsolete method for producing numbers additively. This appears to have been a non-standard contraction of vüzë, followed by both spontaneous devoicing of the initial consonant and the affricate, coinciding with a non-standard shift of the later to a velar onset. However, it may also have been a result of a spontaneous shift of /y/ to /ɛ/ under assimilatory influences from both /a/.
