Jānvān (Koman: (Template:IPA: /ʒɒβɒn/) is the capital city of Komania. It is located at the Kāğāznār Delta in the western portion of Komania within the Kāmadhar region. The city is considered the trade centre and main pusher of the Koman economy, with a booming population of 1,377,219 as of 2016 census, making it as the second largest city in the country, behind Sāmādar. The city is administered separately from the rest of the region granted with a special city status.
Officially founded in 1297 CE as a Mahavic fortress, due to its strategic location at the very middle of Vaniua and it's advantageous access to the Melkanchuta lake, the fortress rapidly became a regional trade centre and grew to become a settlement of relevant size, according to archeological excavations made in 1921, such settlement would have a population of 7000 thousand people. During the Sunrise Horde, the fortress served as a defensive fortification against Western Vaniuans, built with local white stone and surrounded by large walls of at least 7 metres, hence the name "White walled city".
Etymology
The name of the city Jānvān (Koman: (Template:IPA: /ʒɒβɒn/) literally means "White walled city " and has its roots on it's ancient white walls who formerly surrounded the main centre of the city, through time the name evolved along the Koman language to finally adopt its modern form.
The original fortress was named after the colour of the stone in which it was made with, according to several medieval accounts, the very colour of the walls and the Mahavic-like towers in which it was comprised made an astonishing standout along the former strong-green forest surrounding the area.
History
The first settlements have been dated to around 1000 CE, it's first inhabitants are thought to have been ethnic Ohan people who may have moved northwards after the incoming Mahavic invasions. The city is regarded to have been officially founded in 1297 CE shortly after the Mahavic invasions on the region, the guiding commander who was, in fact, an ethnic Mishar, ordered the construction of a Mahavic fortress using the local white stone, after seeing it's strategic position along the Kāğāznār Delta. In one of his accounts he described the place as follows:
Here standing by the Great Lake of Māzēl (Melkanchuta) old stone houses left to the wind root in the hands of time, little of what remains can be seen above the tree trunks.
