Thargo-Qotsia (Thargian: -- /--/ Qotsian: -- /--/), officially the Thargo-Qotsian Union, is a country located on the west shore of Atsiq, west of Siqinni, north of Qatilluu, and south of Soral.

Etymology

History

(All of the following is OOD) Modern Thargun is a fairly new country, having only existed with its current borders for around 55 years. For centuries, Thargun was a part of the Dachashk Empire. In 1834, Thargun and Qotsia won their war for independence and united as their own country (similar to Czechoslovakia on Earth). Thargo-Qotsia (name pending) prospered for around 130 years before separating into modern Thargun and modern Qotsia. Thargun and Qotsia share a long history with each other, even before being united.

Modern Thargun still retains many ideals instilled in them from the Dachashk ruling and completely despises and opposes other ideals. Thargian citizens despise humans, but respect them under the law (which is mainly in place to appease Cinriza and Esaam to the north). In contrast, Thargians despise the idea of a monarchy and have a board of 8 members know as the Estates Generals. Half of the estates generals will always be female dalars while the other half will always be male dalars. Each General is elected by their province (of which there are 8), and the provinces take turns with who must elect a male General and who must elect a female General.

Religion

The Thargoqotsians of Thargoqotsia are devout worshippers of their 12 gods, even in modern times with well-developed science. In older times, the gods were worshipped as idols only, while in modern times they are worshipped as idols with "chosen ones" in the country's government.

The Ruler

The Ruler is the king/queen god. It has no definite gender and is viewed as an authority that even the other gods must obey. The president of Thargoqotsia is said to be the Ruler's "chosen one" and has its blessing during their presidency. The Ruler is placed at 12 o'clock on the Wheel of Worship and is worshipped on the first day of the week.

The Wild One

The Wild One is the 'antigod'. It also has no definite gender and embodies pure chaos and disorder, as well as nature and rain. The Wild One is viewed as the primal forces within every person, and its chosen ones are those who live well with nature. The Wild One and The Ruler are the top gods of the pantheon. The Ruler is placed at 6 o'clock on the Wheel of Worship and is worshipped on the sixth day of the week.

The Destroyer

The Destroyer is the embodiment of destruction and murder. The Destroyer is most often depicted as a male and his chosen ones are those who commit crimes so devastating or criminal that they receive a life sentence or death penalty. The Destroyer is placed at x o'clock on the Wheel of Worship and is worshipped on the xth day of the week. Thargians pray to The Destroyer as the rainy season comes, hoping to avoid the rains ruining their crops.

Cuisine

Most Thargian dishes are nothing special, just the food that peasants during the reign of the Dachashk Empire needed to get by, typically rice with fermented whale, fish, or game. The highers-up, however, feasted on luxurious meals of Thargian, Qotsian, and Dachashki origins. These meals consisted of a variety of meats and seafood spiced with native spices (typically sealife) and imported spices from Qatilluu, Thla Ngai, and the Empire, typically supplemented with homegrown rice. (Rice is the staple grain in Thargun, as opposed to bread like in Europe, and is found in nearly every dish.) A favorite and staple seafood is whale, which is served boiled, fried, and fermented. Fermented whale is made in two ways: buried with spices and a certain type of fungus into the ground just before the freezing season or spiced, salted, and hung to air out near the start of the warm season. Meats typically consist of freshly caught game, so whatever was caught was eaten. Favorites consisted of venison soups and fried (whatever bird is on Atsiq).

Symbols

The Flag

The Thargoqotsian flag contains 6 different colors and 5 different symbols. The colors are: Red, Green, Blue, White, Black, Gold. The symbols are: Tripartite, Boundaries, Circle, 12 Spiked Wheel, 8 Spiked Wheel.

Red

The red on the top of the flag represents blood, honor, and determination. It references the bloodshed in Thargoqotsia's (violent) recession from the Osveraali Empire.

Green

The green in the middle of the flag represents the homeland and nationalism. It references the land fought for in the recession from the Empire.

Blue

The blue at the bottom of the flag represents peace and the ocean. It references the starting point of the recession (the west coast) and the peace the Union went through after internal reconstruction.

Tripartite

The tripartite aspect of the flag puts the three preceding colors together to tell the story of the recession. The land holds the bloodshed away from the water (as the land gained increased and the fighting occurred further and further from Leopaurker).

White Boundaries

The white boundaries are an aspect of the Qotsian flag that was incorporated into the Union's flag to show support from the Thargians to the Qotsians. They also serve as an aesthetic separator because the other colors clash if directly adjacent to each other.

Black Circle

The black circle surrounding the two wheels... [Honestly I have no clue right now]

Golden 12 Spoked Wheel

The golden 12 spoked wheel in the center of the flag represents the Sun, prosperity (wealth), the 12 gods of the religion, and unity (because of the 8 spoked wheel inside). The wheel is, of course, a universal symbol throughout the continent. The Thargians have adapted a golden variant with short spokes (as opposed to the longer spoked wheels or the 'stars').

White 8 Spoked Wheel

The white 8 spoked wheel in the center of the golden 12 spoked wheel has a double representation. The territories of both Thargun and Qotsia were made up of 8 tribes each. These 8 tribes united with each other within their respective territory before uniting to form the Union as a whole and commence the recession. The 8 spokes represent the 8 tribes (with the black outline serving to double that to show both countries' 8 tribes) and the color white serves to represent the Qotsians further.
