The Crooked Palm (Yashuhay:u"qag yalye":ni:m U'ang Yathyéeniim "The date palm that has been crooked") is a novel written by Awkahingge journalist, novelist, and playwright Kutó Hataha Tane Hushuhi between 1844 and 1846 and published periodically throughout 1847. The novel represents the culmination of Shohai Romanticism (a movement related to Magalese Romanticism) in literature, dealing with themes of marriage, tradition, agricultural life, class relations and foreign culture. The plot follows the lives of two bat moiety siblings from the small oasis settlement of Ningkokaitó as they come of age, navigate marriage and face modernity.
