Yaageqyë (IPA: /jɑ:ɣexjə/) is the largest city in Lhavres and one of the largest cities in the world. It is the economic center of Lhavres and an extremely popular tourist and immigrant destination.

Etymology

History

Due to its strategic location between the Yaa Bay and Lake Yaa (both rich in fish and wildlife) and the jungle being generally safer than out west, the area on which Yaageqyë now stands has been inhabited since around 300 BCE by the Proto-Vuuruš culture and possibly early Dhwer settlers. It came to be a permanent settlement for the Vuurušnians sometime around 650 CE, and eventually became the capital of the Yaa Empire. The city was conquered in the 11th century by Dhwer, leading to the swift fall of the Yaa Empire thereafter. The city then changed hands between Lhavres and Dhwer over the centuries as a key strategic location.

After the region of Yaa was annexed by Lhavres in 1732, it became an important center of trade between Mbamigi and Lhavres as the open sea between Mbamigi and Czuczlhayaa is known to be dangerous.

During the economic and industrial boom in Lhavres in late 19th century and most of the 20th century, Yaageqyë grew exponentially larger and its sphere began to incorporate smaller settlements surrounding it, eventually resulting in the endless sprawl seen today. Yaageqyë's location during this time combined with Lhavres's relatively loose immigration policies led to the city becoming an extremely popular destination for foreign immigrants, and in fact Yaageqyë for some time was the top destination for immigrants and expatriates.
