Upper Yahara (/ˈʌpɚ jǝˈhɑːɹǝ/, Yaharan: Päryähärä /ˈpɑɹjɑˌhɑɹɒ/), officially the Kingdom of Yahara, is a country located in Lower Boroso, immediately to the west of Yaxarhayut, and south of Yakormonyo. Yahara is the sister-nation of Yaxarhayut, being the other successor state to the Empire of Yahara. The exact date of when the kingdom came into existence is one of much debate, depending on if one counts the independence of the Duchy of Yerverg as the establishment of the state, whether the brief union of Yaxarhayut and Upper Yahara breaks the continuity of the nation, and, also, whether the nation should be considered to be contiguous with the Empire of Yahara. Usually speaking, Upper Yaharans themselves are prone to view their nation as beginning in 1515, with the dissolution of the Empire of Yahara, however there is a significant Imperialist faction that views the state as the same as that of the Empire of Yahara, and thus its birthdate should be placed in 1065. Some, especially subjects of Yaxarhayut, view both of these views as erroneous, and hold that their neighbour was established in 1685, when it was formally declared the "Kingdom of Yahara". Either way, the roots of the kingdom indubitably go back through the Empire of Yahara, and stretch back into the mythic Yäřlcunöshäyär, from whence come the mythos, faith, and many cultural aspects of the Yaharan population. Upon the collapse of the Yäřlcunöshäyär to the advancing Yennodorian clans, an admixture of Yennodorian and Yaharan cultures began to emerge, resulting in the Empire of Yahara, which then proceeded to grow an conquer most of Lower Boroso. The Empire, straining under the weight of internal conflict, the invasion of external tribes, and political intrigues, collapsed into a series of duchies, each struggling to gain dominance, out of which grew two main contenders, the Duchy of Yërvërg and the Duchy of Yítsmä. These two duchies were unified in 1677, however, contention between the two caused by various political sleights, including the moving of the capital from Vayonden to Yítsmä resulted in a revolt led by the Upper Yaharan nobility, leading to the War of Yaharan Independence. This ended in 1685, leaving the Upper Yaharan state in much the same configuration as it is found today.

Etymology

The name is taken from the name of the Empire of Yahara, which in itself comes from the name of the River Yahara. The word "Yahara" is ancient, and is found in some of the earliest texts from the area to refer to the river, though in the Haran form yähærä, which was most likely pronounced /jɑˈħærɑ/.Countries in Boroso
