Yàłurał

Yàłurał is a traditional style of music in Quaxin Xun, most often associated with the butterfly dance. It is performed in septuple meter, with a stress pattern of 2+2+3, and with an andante moderato tempo.

When performed as an accompaniment to dance, traditionally it is quite spare, with percussion and a drone being the only required elements. When performed alone, or accompanied by folk dance or solo dances, the instrumentation may be more elaborate. The percussion consists of hand drums, a large bass drum beaten with a stick, and a shaker. The shaker is played on beats 1, 3, 5, and 7 of the measure. The drums are only played on the other beats, with one hand drum being consistently played on beats 1, 3, and 5 while other drums vary throughout the song. The drone is provided by a řìłąko (Ndxiixun ri³są¹, Hlung xekahame, Nichoh huìtlą́) or Charonia tritonis shell.
