Zbezhanska (Native language: Zbežãska, IPA: /zbeʒãska/), officially the The Most Victorious, Stalwart and Bountiful Duchy of Zbezhanska, is a country located in southern Atsiq, around the Ton river valley. Its closest neighbors are Ivorsul. The valley was for centuries under the rule of the Atsiq Empire, but due to the difficulty of access caused by the Western Atsiq mountain range, a distinct identity and language emerged (much like in other regions of the continent), leading to ethnic tensions in the Empire. These tensions culminated in the First Atsiq War, where many Duchies within the Empire gained independence, Zbezhanska included. The country and its people are known for being industrious and less militaristic than other former Atsiq Empire duchies.

Etymology

Zbežãska comes from Khalbic /sbaʒẽsŋə/, which by extent comes from the Proto-Atsiq /ɬwodɮãsŋ̩/ meaning "of the Valley". The Proto-Atsiq genitive suffix /-ãsŋ̩/ is normally lost in the Khalic branch, being replaced by /-ət/ (Zbezhanskian -up), but is preserved in certain toponyms and personal names.
