Standard Balak, Chindushi, and Gushli are different national variants and official registers of the pluricentric Jazaghan language. While Chindushi is not an official language on the national level, and is typically considered a dialect group within Balak by most academics, it is recognised as a distinct regional language in the Balak states of Çinduş and Seğâduş, as well as the Federal City of Seğâreyek, and has therefore been included for comparison. Standard Kunjut Balak, which has official status in Kunjut, is also included.

History

Prior to <insert year here> all four languages officially made use of an orthography similar to that of Middle Jazaghan, but major spelling reforms for each language were introduced in the Kuulist era by the Union of Shomosvan, intended to simplify the languages and assist in the education of these languages, particularly Balak as both a native language and a foreign language. X. Speakers of Gushli in particular resisted these spelling reforms, continuing to use the Middle Jazaghan spelling system even in the modern era, while Kunjut was unaffected by the reforms and continued to use the same system.

Writing

Script

All four languages officially use the Vaniuan script, though their orthographies differ.
