Farmosh (Farmoshi: pqarmyš, tr. Pharmuś [pʰərmʉɕ]), officially the United Balkist Republic of Milevia (Farmoshi: balcasrarí ŋæpqæmdarc ŋæŋmarí miledélyš, tr. Balcasrarī Ṅẹphẹmdarc Ṅẹṅmarī Miledēluś, [bəlt͡ɕəsrəri: ŋɛpʰɛmdərt͡ɕ ŋɛŋməri: milede:lʉɕ]), is an island nation located in Milevia, a subregion of Parshita in eastern Miraria. It is the homeland of many minor Milevic ethnic groups, with the most populous and dominant group being the Kesrash people. Its capital is the city of Balcassard, and according to the 2016 census the total population is 22,752,121. Farmosh shares maritime borders with Czisilia to the west, Kaisen to the northwest, and Athsud to the northeast.

Farmosh is home to the historical core of the pre-colonial Milevian Empire, including its de facto capital Phamphar, which remains an important cultural centre to this day. Founded by Jaddemarrash, the empire was organised around a unique system of clans and sodalities which promoted the autonomy of, and co-operation between, the indivdual chiefdoms of the empire. The empire collapsed in the 17th Century, after which its former territory was colonised by the Third Terminian Empire and incorporated into the Terminian Far East.

The country gained independence along with X through the referendums on Milevian sovereignty 1876 as the Republic of Socel. Following a civil war between Balkist factions and Soceli loyalists in 1877, Farmosh became the first constitutionally Balkist country in the world. The election of Yekhar Ṅacraś as Grand Steward of Farmosh in 1936 led to the establishment of religious apartheid, which served to fuel Pashaist revolts in the country. Although the repeal of some discriminatory laws began in X under the leadership of then-Grand Steward Yetīc Cẹmwuk, progress was slow and minimal, and was halted entirely following his resignation and the election of Yụrik Dāraś in 2016.

In the 21st Century, Farmosh X.

Etymology

The country's official name, Milevia, is identical to the name given to the region of Milevia, and has its origins in the Old High Czisilian term Mēḷidh (lit. "old way"). This term was used to refer to followers of the traditional Milevic Orudist religion following many Czisils' conversion to Pashaism in the Xth Century. Following this the term began to spread through other nearby languages, and came to refer to either the region or the people themselves, depending on the language.

The name Farmosh comes from the genitive form of the Farmoshi word pharm, meaning 'many,' and as such literally means 'of the many.' This refers in part to the many indigenous ethnic groups, predominantly Milevic groups, residing in the country, and in part to the common folk as opposed to colonial-era bureaucrats ("the few"). The name is seldom used by state media aside from in propaganda, with Milevia generally being preferred in official contexts, although it sees considerable use abroad and by a growing number of Farmoshi citizens, particulary those in anti-establishment groups.

History

Prehistory

Pre-Migration

Prior to the Milevic migrations and invasions Farmosh was home to a number of Parshitan ethnic groups, such as Daleic groups, X.

Milevic Migrations

By around 500AD Southern Milevic tribes had migrated to what is now the west coast of X. From there they migrated further westwards and diverged into what would become the ancestors of the Kesrashis, Czisils, and Lhebs. Groups of Kesrash and Czisil tribes occupied roughly the northern and southwestern portions of the main island of Farmosh(?) respectively.

Pre-Sunrise Horde Chiefdoms

Milevian Empire

In response to the expanding Sunrise Horde, the individual Milevic chiefdoms began to X. The Milevian Empire was founded as a confederacy between the clans in the 13th Century, headed by its first Grand Steward, Jaddemarrash.

Colonial Period

Independence from Terminia

The ideas and writings of Yurik Balkas spread across the Terminian Far East, inspiring anti-Terminian sentiment among Milevians, especially in Farmosh.

Tensions across the Far East culminated in the Referendums on Milevian Sovereignty, in which Socel and Otsuk voted to become independent, while Kaisen and Czisilia instead voted to remain a Terminian possession.

Contemporary History

Pashaist Uprisings

Following the election of Yekhar Ṅacraś as Grand Steward of Farmosh in 1936 and the resulting crackdown on Pashaists, a series of revolts erupted across Farmosh and the Republic of Kaisen and Czisilia, targeting the respective countries' Balkist and Kuulist regimes with the intent to establish a theocratic Pashaist state in the former Terminian Far East. Politics

Government

Farmosh is officially a single-party Balkist state, although opposition parties have been allowed to hold seats in the Council of Stewards since 2014. The Council of Stewards is the supreme unicameral legislative body of Farmosh, and is the only body vested with legislative authority. Members are elected through first-past-the post voting.

Administrative divisions

Farmosh is divided into 12 provinces, including the capital city Balcassard.

Foreign relations

Farmosh has enjoyed positive relations with Shohuan, a major trading partner, since shortly after the collapse of the Helsonian Union. Shohuanese companies are permitted to conduct business with relative freedom within designated Special Economic Zones.

The country's historical policies of irredentism and discrimination have left it somewhat alienated following the collapse of the Helsonian Union, with Farmosh not sharing any particularly positive relations with any of its neighbours.
