Kauilana is a culturally significant city for Kawuiians due to its historical and ethnic significance. The city is home the Kawuiian film industry. Famous landmarks include the National Diet Building, the Keile Palace, the National Museum of Tribal History, the Lestzi House, and many other important historical landmarks.
Every year, on the New Year, Kauilanians and other Kawuiians partake in the Sauakui Festival. During this festival, often after visiting the local Kautoist shrine, the Kawuiian public often participate in the Kuilausa Ritual. During this ritual, after doing a prayer, the people will toss a branch of the Kakui tree (Kawuiian: Kaikui) into the sea, or other body of water, to symbolize the throwing away of their troubles and cleansing of their soul.
