Liosol (Alotol: Sedail; Recamic: Sedala; Hetan: Luso [luso]), officially the Sovereign Kingdom of Liosol (Alotol: Onges Tekamoil Sedailar), is a country in eastern Soltenna. It shares borders Karduv and Malas to the west; Huy En to the south-west; Kadya to the south; Asota to the east; and has a coastline along Lake Soltenna and the Gelög Sea. Liosol has a population of 104.6 million, most of which resides below the Jon River. The nation has two capitols: Alotol City, the legislative capitol and biggest city by urban area in the country, and Lenodäi, the royal capitol.

Liosol is one of the world's most developed and economically stable nations, with an HDI of 0.921 and a GDP of $3.21 trillion. Its financial opportunities and quality of life earned it a seat in the global financial organization known as the Global 9. It is a unitary semi-parliamentary constitutional monarchical federation stretching from Lake Soltenna to the Kelu Sea. It is the motherland of the Alotol people, and many other non-native groups. The country is a member of the Soltennan Council, the Charter, and one of the founding members of the International Congress.

Etymology

The term Liosol comes from the phrase kame lejosiusar ("lands of the Luma dynasty"). Lejosius is the short version of this term and the one from which the modern name is derived. Another name of Liosol, Sedail, is a derivative of the word sed meaning heart or heartland.

The term Alotol comes from arejn-tar ("of Acre place"), a name the early Alotol people referred to themselves as when settling Seteul. A more modern form of this term became alaida(r).

History

Migration periods

Recamic migration

Ethnically Rietic people arrived in the Recam during the 4th millenium BCE. They primarily settled around the Jon River and the Ungagon Mountains. There were also a few settlements on the shores of Lake Soltenna. This first migration is referred to as the Recamic Migration by historians. It predates the Iris migrations by more than two thousand years. The ancient city of Vainiugań was established during this time period.

Acre migration

The Recam saw an influx of Rietic people from southern Soltenna from around 1840 to 1580 BCE. This second wave of migration brought more "ethnically pure" Rietic people into the area. This second group came from across Lake Soltenna and Kadya, settling in the valleys between modern Kadya and Liosol and around the Jon River. While settlers from the Recamic migration were mostly tribal and did not have strongly established communities, the Acre migrants brought concepts from Iris? with them, such as city states and new forms of governance.

Alotol people

The Alotol people formed a distinct identity from their Rietic neighbors due to marriages between Vaniuan and Hetan groups. The people of the Acre migration intermarried with their distant relatives from the Recamic migration and created an Alotol identity with the creation of city states throughout the region.

Seteul

Luma dynasty

The Kingdom of Seteul, which was founded by the Luma dynasty circa 1437 BCE, is thought to be the earliest Alotol civilization, stretching from modern-day Lenodäi to Lake Soltenna. The Luma dynasty fell after a succession crisis in 1205 BCE. Prince Gohan sacked Lenodäi that same year, establishing himself as Lord of the Recam.

Gohan dynasty

The Gohan dynasty inherited the Kingdom of Seteul and expanded it to include modern Belfan. The Gohan dynasty ended with the death of King Gohan, who had failed to produce an heir. His dynasty was succeeded by his cousin's in 1163.

Jon Dynasty

King Gohan's cousin, ?, adopted the surname Recam to honor the title "Lord of the Recam", and ruled all the territories below the Jon River. The Jon dynasty led an unprecedented period of peace for the early Alotol kingdoms, reigning from 1163 till 667. The death of King Recam Dena started the second Sedailar succession crisis and ended in the division of Seteul into four kingdoms.

Divided kingdoms

Kingdom of Adena

The Kingdom of Adena lasted from 667 till 381 BCE, ending in the destruction of Vainiugań by Ainan.

Rise of the Alotol republics

Arrival of the Hetans

Nuar invasions

People form the Nuar Kingdom conquered former territories of the Methinak Empire in the second century BCE. The Nuar people originally settled around the Kethn river, before moving into the Ungagon Mountains during the rise of Qgam.

Malas Kingdom

The Malas Kingdom, Kjē̃tlaw's easternmost tributary, expanded east of the Kethn river. After the fall of the Nuar Kingdom to Qgam, the Malas Kingdom became an independent nation in central Soltenna. They followed Kjē̃tlaw's model and established tributary states in the Ungagon Mountains. The most prominent of these states were Hoi, Sen, Pomanda, and Gjenaw (Granas). The Malas Kingdom eventually fell after a war with x caused it to relinquish land and release its tributaries.

Malas Empire

The Malas Empire was formed in 789 CE by Reth Gose.

Confederation era

In 1253 AD, the Kingdom of Setoel (the largest of Northern states) established itself as the Alotol Empire. As time went on individual state joined the Imperial Confederation and created the gontei as a defense against the invading Western powers. Attempts to reach out to vassal states such as Malas ultimately failed in this early period, although the nation did manage to liberate some of the North of the country.

The Charter

In a last attempt to keep its imperial legacy in tact and to help its "most favorable neighbor", the Alotol Confederation entered into an union with Mai Thi known as the "Charter for Economic & Cultural Cooperation in the Two Noble Kingdoms."

Dissolution

Sovereign era

After a military coup that killed Antol the II occurred in 1831 the kingdom entered into an interregnum period. Every political faction fought over the future of the country until it was decided that a central monarchy could no longer work. While the nation was a confederation it worked well because there were multiple kings conveying in a court and there was no central place of power. After thinking long and hard the government decided a parliament would be wise as a somewhat feasible replacement to that system. A monarch[1] and prime minister[2] were elected together in the year 1840.

Deunic Crisis

The Deunic Crisis was spurred by former LEUNA agent Deun Agore's release of thousands of classified documents on Athe. Of these documents Project Badol was the most controversial. It's contents claimed that Liosol had aided in the assassination of Gushlia's Sagam II. Pra Densok and other opposing parties demanded that Prime Minister Goe Jegan step down or the next election be moved up. The House of Status voted to move the 2020 election to 21 March, 2019. Election results declared D Kunaso winner of the election. Shortly after, however, he was assassinated after meeting Goe Jegan. Chancellor of the House of Status Eul Lana became Prime Minister of Liosol after Goe was incarcerated and the government began investigations into possible election meddling that led to a Kuelist majority. Pra Densok, a popular candidate representing the Hansobel Party, claimed to be the rightful winner and held an inauguration on (n/a) - declaring himself the first President of Liosol. Eventually, the two Houses reconciled and Eul conceded that the Kuelist Party rightfully won the 2019 election.

Politics

Government

Liosol is a semi-parliamentary system. The incumbent King is head of state but effectively has no power, shifting it to the Prime Minister (along with his cabinet) and House of Status. These two political bodies are voted upon by the people of Liosol every five years. The Prime Minister selects his own cabinet while the House of Status, which is the nation's legislature, is divided up, not by provinces, but by the enumerated votes of the Alotol people. Currently, the Alotol Kuelist Party (FGL) has a majority in the House os Status, making Liosol's current administration a predominately leftist one.

Parties and elections

Liosol is currently made up of five recognized political parties. This number, according to housteofstatus.info.ac, is reached by winning at least 20 seats, two election cycles in a row. The House of Roses lost its status as a recognized ballot party in the 2019 election. According to statistical data run by the (JANI), the Alotol Kuelist Party is currently the most popular out of this number.

Alotol election season comes only once every five years. A prime minister is elected during this process and the House of Status is appointed by the collective party votes of Liosol's population. The rest of the upper house is selected by the winner of the election. The next election has yet to be scheduled.

The current Prime Minister is Pra Densok.

Foreign relations

Liosol maintains relatively peaceful relationships with its Northern neighbors thanks to alliances established via the Charter. The country also participates in the Soltenna Council and is a founding member of the International Congress.

Military

Liosol currently has one of the biggest military budgets in Soltenna. Although the government does not publish documents detailing the military, it is rumored the nation has upwards of 530,000 active servicemen, and between 400,000 to 600,000 in reserves. Despite this high number, Liosol has not been officially involved in a war (as defined by the nation's constitution) since the '50s.

Previously, all students were required to serve a minimum of 6 months in military service before acquiring a full-time job. This law caused controversy, especially after the Helsonian Collapse and Qonklese Crisis. Most nationalists in Liosol's Kajeth consider military service to be a civic duty, while others believe it is a form of discrimination. Activists tried to overturn this law on four separate occasions, only succeeding with the recent implementation of the so-called "Pra Constitution". As of September 1st, 2020, military service in Liosol will be completely voluntary.

Economy

Transportation, energy, and infrastructure

Liosol has an extensive technologically advanced network of highways, high-speed railways, and air routes running throughout the country. These services are operated by the Alotol Air and Road Initiative which is lead by the Minister of Travel.

Liosol provides train services to major cities, the coast, and the mountains but has begun phasing out this program in favor of its LER system and recent Soltenna Council initiatives like the SISTER Project. Minister of Travel Im Luson said in 2018 that the country plans to have high-speed rails capable of 400 kph in every region by 2025. Currently, the LER is finishing its biggest line known as BELAGRA - named for its original stops in Belfan, Lanothi, and Granas - with plans to extend it to Umasi and other western cities.

Some of Liosol's implementations of faster transportation have been derailed due to the 2006 Green Initiative by the House of Status. The purpose of the initiative, according to Former Minister Goe Janii, is to control CO2 levels in the country and promote public transportation like BELAGRA and independent bus companies.

Tourism

Demographics

Urbanisation

The three cities of Banelkan, Lanothi, and Alotol City are the most visited areas of Liosol, garnering an average of 32.3 million tourists a year. Collectively the government and the people of Liosol refer to this area as the "Doeln" or "Triangle".

Banelkan

Believed to be the first Alotol settlement in upper Soltenna, the ruined city of Banelkan now serves as a fascinating piece of archaeological evidence. This area does not boast a great population as the other two cities in the Doellen do, but it makes up for it in the amount of scientific endeavor that are undergone there.

Lanothi

Lanothi's nearly five million[3] residents have a reputation of great education and devotion to their country. Once known as the "intellectual capital of the middle kingdoms", this city is home to the largest library in Soltenna and, possibly, Sahar. Lanothi is also well known for the large amount of expats living in it and it is often referred to as "Soltenna's City". Another nickname for it is the "City of the Crown" due to it's status as the legislative and monarchical capital of Liosol.

Alotol City

Alotol City boasts both the title of executive capital of Liosol and the highest population center with a population of 7,392,684. This city is referred to as the "seat of government and the arts", since most officials and La Pop singers live here, although the latter have begun to move closer to Lanothi now.

Ethnic groups

Traditionally, Liosol is said to contain three great and diverse ethnicities: Alotol, Hetan or Malasic, and Sebnese.

Alotol

Alotol people make up the biggest portion of Liosol's ethnic groups. Thed name originates from the Chanlosol words for 'the people.' Roughly 63% of Liosol identifies with this group in modern times, although only about 48% of the population of Liosol are direct descendants of the historical Alotol people.

Hetan

The Hetan or Malasic people are descendants of groups that inhabited the Southwestern regions in prehistoric times.
