Plot

First part

An ordinary farmer named Zármz in a village near Rugyútyekeg spends his life quietly, farming and selling part of his crop. During one of his walks in the village, he meets a girl named Síkliz. Together they walk, spend time together and after a while they get married. Soon, they have a son, and then the wife becomes pregnant with another one. At the end of this part, we see how Zármz is sitting on the grass joyfully, his son is playing next to him, everything is calm and then the date "August 7, 1918" appears on the screen and the first part ends.

Second part

The second part takes place four years later. The situation, although it became a little worse, due to desolation in the city, but still went on as usual. Zármz went about his usual routine, while figures of soldiers of the Empire appeared from time to time outside, periodically entering the village to rest. However, one day everything changed. A youth ran into the village, shouting for everyone to run south, for the soldiers of the Divine Union of Faichani Revival are coming. Many took this seriously and ran away, however, Zármz and his family didn't hear the warning and woke up when the village was under DUFR control. Communication with the city was broken, the DUFR soldiers demanded much more than the village could give. Anyone disliked by the soldiers could be killed. Then came a very cold winter and the harvest was extremely small. Famine came to the village. This winter the youngest son died, then for refusing to go to war, the second son was killed. Closer to summer, a rumor spread through the village that partisan movements were operating in it. The order was given to destroy the village. Zármz accidentally learned about this from a soldier and immediately decided to pack his things and run with his wife into the forest. At night, he sees a burning village in the distance and hears the screams of people. Hungry, dirty and tired, they walk non-stop through the forest. By morning, they are at the lake. There they arrange a halt. They sleep off and in the late afternoon, Zármz goes into the forest for brushwood. Suddenly, he hears his wife's scream and runs towards the lake. Hiding in the bushes, he sees his wife being kidnapped by soldiers, he quietly pursues them until they come across a meadow. On it stands a lonely dilapidated gharam and a gallows. Through the bushes, he sees his wife and several other people being led to the gallows, after which they are executed. Unable to stand it, he runs deep into the forest and finds a pistol and a portrait of Bédcaf Tégosebusag. He takes the pistol and shoots the portrait twice before trampling it into the ground in a rage. Then, he turns back and sees soldiers approaching, he screams and shoots himself.
