The Sovereign Kingdom of Liosol uses a multi-party system.

Historical party eras

Throughout its modern history as the Sovereign Kingdom, Liosol has undergone many changes in its political makeup and which factions control the Kajeth.

Biparty era

During the first major elections in modern Liosol, a two-party system was used. This replaced the multi-party system of the Alotol Confederation. Many regional parties blended with the major parties in a coalition system. The reason for this is believed to be that the two major parties were a reflection of two prevailing but differing political ideologies in Liosol during the time. The Confederation Party represented the system of the Alotol Confederation and advocated for more autonomy for the Gan and Kamoil. The United Alotol Party advocated for big government and wanted to strengthen the Alotol identity, often diminishing regional identities and deposing non-Batanic royals.

Multi-party era

The multi-party era began in 1875 when the country elected its first Prime Minister outside of the two major parties. The Confederation Party and the United Alotol Party diminished during this time and eventually were absorbed into other, smaller parties.

Conservative era

The Conservative era is often dated at either 1900 or 1925. The reason for this large discrepancy is that many historians believe Liosol's shift to a predominately right-wing Kajeth occurred with the creation of the Three Banners coalition, a merging of the remaining members of the United Alotol Party and other groups. However, it wasn't until 1925 that the Three Banners had become an official party rather than a coalition. This decision helped the Three Banners and conservative factions control the Kajeth the late 60's.

Reactionary era

The Reactionary era was a term coined by scholar Jon Hema. He said that this naming was a result of "the policies passed during this period as a response to nearly half a century of Conservative rule."

New Imperial era

The New Imperial era began in 1990, with the first election of a Banner Bearer in nearly four decades. During this era the Three Banners caucused with other conservative parties and

Popular era

The Popular era is often believed to have started around 2015, when many of the Hetan voters cast ballots for regional and independent parties, in protest of the banning of explicitly Kuulist parties. However, some scholars put the start date at the end of Prime Minister Goe's term, in the wake of Operation Badol and the leaking of the Deunic Papers. This era is marked by left-wing dominance in the Kajeth and liberal changes to Liosol's constitution.
