A Seram or Tawâ (Koman: særam or tawā), is a large wooden sailing ship, traditional to Eastern Vaniua. Serams were widely used as merchant ships in the Parshita Sea and gained prominence during the Great Horde as the empire expanded its trading influence.

Description

Seram sailing ships had an elongated and curved prow with traditional ornaments which often came with a pointy stem head. This specific type of sailing ship was known for its bulky bow, which at times had an even longer stem head depending on the design, this approach came in hand with an ornately carved quarter gallery.

The average length of a Seram was 100 ft (30 m) with a 22 m (72 ft) keel-length and an average weight of 250 tons. Most Serams had 2 masts and at least 2 lateen sails on both the back and front of the ship.

Seram sailing ships developed from the older Kothlenic þárfom ship, making the Seram an amalgamation of various eastern Vaniuan and foreign maritime technologies facilitated by the expansion of the Great Horde.

History

Serams were extensively utilized as merchant ships in the Parshita Sea for large-scale trade between Vaniua and its neighboring regions. These ships were renowned for their durability, making them suitable for trading not only between Ekuosia and Vaniua but also in the Gulf of Sharkunen.

The Great Horde was known for modifying these vessels for military use. Following the Yazeran Campaign, the Great Horde commissioned the construction of approximately 400 units to expand their maritime influence.
