South Alpa (Arhani: TBD [TBD], Seuvy: TBD [TBD]), officially The Second Republic of South Alpa, is a country located in southern Alpa. it borders Nordjaelm to the west and Sanmra to the east. It is comprised of four autonomous states: Arhana, Treidha, Thkelpenhurn and Erdu Territory. The nation has two capitals, Kyshku and Diegan, the second and third most populous cities in the country, with 1.27 million people and 1.19 million people, respectively. Thkelpenhurn is the most populous city at 1.42 million. It covers 748,140 square kilometers (288,858 mi²) and hosts a population of 12,620,000. South Alpa is a multiethnic, multilingual nation. It has undergone numerous wars, both civil and international, and several different regimes and governments throughout its long lifetime. The most spoken languages are Seuvy- an Atsiqan language descended from Middle Sod, primarily spoken in the west- and Arhani- a Garsenian language mostly spoken in the east. The Second Republic's government is notoriously corrupt. Formerly, it was very authoritarian and isolationist, but it has grown less oppressive and more open in recent years. The country is a somewhat popular tourist destination, and is famous for its blueberry wine.

Etymology

The name "South Alpa" is derived from the nation's location in southern Alpa. It is informally and affectionately called Sudha, mostly by its inhabitants.

History

A variety of human groups and Dalar have inhabited the area since prehistory. Rebels under the leadership of Ahčan were driven away from the Garsenian Confederation in 22 AD, and settled in what is now Arhana. The Great Atsiq Empire conquered the southwestern portions of the country in the 1380s. In the mid-19th century, Dhweran whalers flocked to the newly established city of Thkelpenhurn, and its population grew rapidly. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Dhwer began to send kúúlist political prisoners to the city. With the outbreak of the Northern War in 1911, the nation broke away from Nordjaelm, and even after Nordjaelm's defeat in 1915, the nation was undergoing a civil war for another three years. By 1918, the Supreme Helsonia of Alpa had been established. However, its oppressive and largely uneffective policies were largely unpopular with the people of the nation, and following the Third Berry Famine, it was be overthrown by a Dalar Nationalist group in a military coup in 1941. On February 18th, 1944, the Treaty of Kyshku was signed, officially inducting in the new government.

Geography

The Spine mountains run north to south through the middle of the country. They are relatively short; they average to approximately ~1400 meters in height; the tallest mountain is 1999 meters high. Fertile river valleys line the country along its eastern and western borders.

Geology

Climate

The inland half of the country is mostly subarctic (Köppen climate type Dfc) while the south is cool-summer Continental (Köppen type Dfb), with the very highest peaks of the Spine classified at ET (tundra).

Biodiversity

The Second Republic is home to polar and black bears, arctic foxes, reindeer, geese, grey wolves, seals, eagles and several birds. Wild rice, blueberries, blackberries, cherries, currants and apples grow in abundance, while kiwis and hazelnuts were introduced during the reign of the Great Atsiq Empire. The ocean around South Alpa hosts various species of salmon, crabs, whales and dolphins, as well as small fish and crustaceans.
