Taongio ma (Trufji tâongio má /tǎo̯ŋɪ̯o̯ má/) is a board game of the tanni class originating in Goal.

History

Taongio ma is believed to have originated from contact between Xuni sailors and merchants from northeastern Goal.

Rules

The rules of taongio ma are similar to oha. It is played with a maunwe deck. There is no suit type that allows passing or skipping the opponent's turn, and instead there are two suits (crosses and toothpicks) that allow taking multiple stones. Graphs add stones, and triangles make the opponent discard cards.

It is often played in iterated series between players who meet weekly or monthly, either in clubs or in informal meetings such as in the park, who keep a running tally of their score across games. In these series of games, a rule called the doubling stone can be used. At any point during a game, any player can invoke the doubling stone. This forces each other player to either concede or agree to doubling the stakes of the game. There are 5 doubling stones in a set, allowing the stakes of a game to be raised up to 32 points.
