The Third Western War, also called the War of the Kethn, was a military conflict between the Alotol Confederation and the Kingdom of Malas.

Background

After the end of the Second Western War in 1709, the Alotol Confederation and the Kingdom of Malas lived in relative peace. However, it was a personal goal of the Court of Batan to expand the boundary of the Confederation to the Kethn River in order to have unrestricted trade with West Soltenna. Emperor name did not press the issue but his successor, Emperor Ena, demanded the land to the East of the Kethn multiple times. Ena offered to buy the low populated land in 1762, but his offer was rejected. For the next decade, Alotol citizens moved into the region but were promptly evicted. The tensions caused by this are in part responsible for the war, but Emperor Ena's declaration of East Kethn as a Kamoil of the Alotol Confederation is the main reason conflict broke out. The Kingdom of Malas accused the Alotol Confederation of threatening its sovereignty and began rounding up citizens in the region. This lead to the official declaration of war on October 12th, 1778.

Course of the War

Aftermath

The war ended January 9th, 1780 in a ceasefire. A five year truce was established between the two countries with the Treaty of Umasi.
