Etymology
History
Breaking Apart from the Canana Empire
Prior to 1262, Ukutunajas was a province of the Canamic Empire. Unhappy with the lack of financial support to the province, the ethnic tensions between the mostly Canamic people of the empire and the mostly Asuranesian people of Ukutunajas, and the racial tensions between the humans of the empire and the astalavis that made up a large portion of the province, Ukutans started to despise the rest of the empire. When the Emperor and his court went missing in 1262, Ukutunajas officials refused to renew the feudal contract binding the province to the Empire. Instead, xxx, at the time a rich landowner, gathered the people of Ukutunajas and united them under the label of country rather than province. He then declared himself king.
Astalavi Personhood
In 1962, Astalavi people were legally recognized as sentient persons. Previously, they had legally been considered subhuman, and were able to be enslaved. However, due to lobbying by astalavis for legal personhood and recognition of their contributions to the independence of Ukutunajas from the Canamic Empire, the current king, xxxx, agreed to give them the same rights as the humans of Ukutunajas.
