Saan a Qamre was a Balak-Jutean Vamejo guild leader and social activist, best known for leading the protest against the construction of Sitti Airfield. Her opposition stemmed from her isolationist views that saw the airfield as an environmental, cultural and national security threat to the island.
Assigned male at birth in Balakia, she fled the country at the age of 21 due to Balak social and legal repression of LGBT+ people and arrived in Balak Numudu in 1952. There she took on a new name and the vamejo gender, first working as a harbor worker. She was very active in local political affairs and was engaged in debates surrounding foreign policy and relations with Balakia soon after gaining citizenship.
Later, she became a law student in the Vamejo guild of Balak Numudu. It was with guild friends that she started the anti-airport movement. However, it ultimately only had a limited success. As her guild was destroyed in a storm before she has finished her studies, she opened her own guild, which became infamous for the social non-conformism of its members and their various instances of law breaking including forming illegal gangs and kidnapping pets. Saan a Qamre's guild is however also credited with introducing and popularizing hip-hop and urban biking as a sport.
