The San Mngup people is a subbranch of the Ebo Nganagam Hux Kham people, they are descendants of liberated slaves of the Q'eb Empire, and most of them are originally Ya Amo people enslaved by the Q'eb people.

History

The ancestors of the San Mngup people were originally Ya Amo people who lived in Shekku, but during the 1500s, the land of the Ya Amo people was conquered by the seafarers of the Q'eb Empire, many ethnic Ya Amo people were enslaved by the Q'eb people, being sent to the Q'eb Empire proper in Baredina and sold as slaves.

In 1820s-1830s, during the war between the Aristocratic Republic of Myak Kham and the Q'eb Empire, the Ya Amo slaves joined the Aristocratic Republic of Myak Kham to fight against the Q'eb Empire, so in 1832 when the Q'eb Empire was conquered by the Aristocratic Republic of Myak Kham, the Ya Amo slaves were liberated, then they joined the communities of Hux Kham people living in Baredina, and got the name "San Mngup".

Today, the San Mngup people is a part of the Ebo Nganagam Hux Kham people, it is known that Ebo Nganagam Hux Kham people whose surnames contain two words are likely to have ancestors who are San Mngup people.
