The conquest of Jetanda was the second of a series of campaigns the Marizan khanate had fought following their unification a decade earlier. The Marizan were formed of the six main Vanoshan tribes: Vichav, Richav, Marav, Najav, Azav, Vadmiv, and the Yestenav. Following a forced unification under Vlyač I Šebrsev, the Marizan marched south through the Vanoshan valley and overwhelmed the lightened defense guarding the Poćec pass. With the fortress destroyed, the Marizan swept through the countryside before defeating the Jetandan nobles at the battle of Finia in 896. The defeat marked the beginning of a series of raids and conquests across Western Vaniua by the Marizan, who would terrorize the region for the next twenty years.
