The Kingdom of Szezkia is one of the most developed countries in the world, with the highest HDI in the world, at 0.927, and the third highest nominal wealth per adult. It ranks at or near the top globally in several metrics of national performance, including in areas such as civil and economic liberties, quality of life, and life expectancy, although is flawed by the moderate underlying xenophobia that is present in much of its society, a significant amount of religious intolerance, and a relatively high amount of perceived corruption, as well as a dog-eat-dog-like capitalist culture in business. | The Kingdom of Szezkia is one of the most developed countries in the world, with the highest HDI in the world, at 0.927, and the third highest nominal wealth per adult. Szezkia (/ʃʲɛzkiə/; Szezk: Šецkia [ɕjezskiä]), officially The Kingdom of Szezkia (Szezk: Roncevost vlu Šецkia [ront͡sevost vlu ɕjezskiä]) is a coastal country in Midwest Baredina. Its only border is shared with Norjihan. Szezkia's territory spans approximately 49,300 square kilometres (19,000 square miles), and is mostly flat, with the highest point of land being less than 500 metres above sea level. The population is over 5.2 million and comprises mainly ethnic Szezks. The capital and largest city is Avdjereg. The official language is Szezk, the oldest member of the Baredan language family.
The Szezk arrived in the territory of present-day Szezkia in the mid-16ᵗʰ century, when fleeing from the revolt in Norjihan against them, led by Govegz Rona. Independence of the Szezk Monarchy from the tribal system of early-medieval Norjihan was established in 1555, and defended at the battle of Avdjereg in 1556, where the modern capital is situated. Szezkia has a history of armed neutrality, and has not engaged itself in international war since 1834, although, as Avdjereg is the location of most of the Baredan Union's headquarters, it is responsible for much of the international relations of the region, including the management of and response to conflict.
The country is controlled by the head of state: a benevolent monarchy which still has much of the power it used to, although is limited by a constitution compiled for the prevention of decisions being made that would adversely affect citizens' livelihoods or the correct functioning of the government that it otherwise has jurisdiction over. The constitution has been described as 'unobtrusive', as the Szezk Royal Family retains great authority, and is generally trusted in society, with a positive view of the monarch's role in the running of the country. Day-to-day issues are, however, usually dealt with by The Senate, which works to support the royals in political affairs. It is led by the elected Head of Government, the Head Chancellor, which can be rejected by the King or Queen. (Said rejection potentially causing both political and civil unrest.)
As a result of a long period of isolation from neighbouring countries in past, Szezkia's population consists almost entirely of people from the Szezko-Norjihani ethnolinguistic group. The culture of Szezks is generally very different from that of Norjihanis, the main difference being a nearly total absence of religious practices in Szezkia, and thus a laid-back socially oriented lifestyle, complemented by almost constant reliance on the modern technology that serves as one of the main contributing exports for the economy. The far East of the country, closer to the international boundary, is consequently quite culturally different to that of the Midlands and particularly the West.
