Melunebet (Lithian: Melunebet /melunebet/) is a city located inland in the State of Lugilik, in Lugida, with a population of about 1 million. It is known as the cultural capital of Lugida, as many Melunes still retain their own culture, thanks to its inland location that keeps it out of much of foreign (non-Lugid) influence, as well as its quite breezing climate given its proximity with Mount Nidarum. Today, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Lugida.
Etymology
Melunebet comes from the two Lithian words, Melunt "outside", and Lebet "bridge", thus literally "outside bridge". The name is in reference to Melunebet's proximity to Yerlan, as well as its location near the river, thus making the name more accurately "the bridge to the outside". Here, the "outside" may refer to either the Melunes themselves or the Yerlanis.
