Kauzia (Ythnandosian: kauz poɣ, IPA: /kawz poɣ/), officially the Republic of Kauzia, is a country located in east Baredina. Kauzia is and has been a major regional power, having the largest economy in Baredina and having previously conquered many Ekuosian countries during the reign of the Kauzic Empire.
Etymology
The term kauz dates back to the first Kauzic settlements in the Ekuos Delta, which they originally referred to as kauz. Over time, this became used as the Kauzic demonym. In modern Kauzia, the Ythnandosian term kauz and its cognates in related languages have come to denote someone of any of many ethnic groups in Kauzia, as opposed to an ethnic Kauzic, although its original meaning remains as well.
The origin of the term kauz is obscure, with one theory linking it to the Ydtobogan word *hāgorda "safety, shelter" (cf. Classical Kauzic haẓ "safety"), but most of these theories have been deemed invalid.
History
Early History
The Kauzics first originated in what is now Izovangia, as part of the Ydtobogan societies along the Ekuos River. During the Ydtobogan Migration, the ancestors of the Kauzics migrated east along the Ekuos River over a few centuries until they reached the Ekuos Delta around 1500 BCE. Over the next four hundred years, they established dominance over the various other peoples in the region, but mostly remained in the Sizhak region as they had not yet unified. Having also brought writing in the form of the Itamea script, the Kauzics were the first to introduce writing to Sizhak, and consequently to the entirety of Kauzia.
Than and the Classical Period
By 1110 BCE, the Kauzics had unified and developed their own distinct culture. Villages had begun to develop across Zint, especially on the coast and along the many rivers in the area. In 1098 BCE, the first Kauzic emperor, Tem, took control of the Kauzic villages and created a loosely unified civilization known as Than. The next three centuries was characterized by a pursuit of knowledge in order to "uplift" Kauzic society, as well as an increase in literacy in the Itamea script. By then, the Itamea script had become significantly defective as the Kauzic language distinguished many more sounds than were written down.
As Kauzic society began to flourish for the first time, many sought expansion in the 800s BCE. The Kauzics were among the first in the world to invent iron weaponry, and prepared for war against the surrounding peoples. By 850 BCE, the Kauzics had control of what are now the Zet and Vat regions, and slowly pushed further east. In 845 BCE, the emperor Lhat initiated a twenty year long conquest of much of modern-day Kauzia, assimilating or sometimes destroying different peoples along the way.
Kauzic Empire
The Kauzic Empire conquered much of Baredina, but soon lost its new territory to rebellions by various native groups.
