The West Rolovian War was a war fought in Miraria between 1917 and 1919 which involved Shavakhotia and Soptemia, and resulted in the secession of the southern Avarad region to Shavakhotia.

Background

Vañudeic War

After the conclusion of the first Vañudeic War in 1797, the First Lenezi Empire partitioned the Enlightened Huhjunate of Shavakhotia with Anaklua. This was negotiated on account of powerful Anakluan individuals holding interests and land and resources in the region, and not wanting to be ruled by a more zealous government.

Anakluan Rule

Despite the cultural and geographical isolation of the region in relation with the rest of Anaklua, the territory was annexed directly into the provinces of Nogulan, Dothien and Ramiss. After the establishment of the Soptum Commonwealth, some pushed for greater autonomy in the region, but these requests went largely unheard. After Shavakhotia regained independence from Lenezan, a large portion of the population emigrated into Shavakhotia.

Course of the War

On the 25th of June, 1917, Shavakhotia launched an invasion of the region with the goal of annexing it in its entirety. Soptemia was not well prepared for war at the time, and by the time Soptemia's army had mobilized, Shavakhotia had taken control of a significant area. Soptemia's army was substantially smaller than Shavakhotia's throughout the entirety of the war, but was considered to have technoligical superiority. The West Rolovian War was one of the first to use aircraft. Soptemia made use of the XXX bomber, and had produced 30 of them by the end of the war. Shavakhotia employed the use of tanks in the war, though the mountianous terrain limited their utility. The experience of fighting Shavakhoti tanks persuaded Soptenese military leadership to not use tanks until 1935.

Peace Negotiations

While both sides expected the war to end quickly, this did not occur. After twenty months of fighting, the war was looking increasingly unwinnable for Shavakhotia. Meanwhile, Soptemia had become disillusioned with the stalemate of the war and the prospect of governing such a tempestuous region. These factors brought both parties to the negotiating table. It was decided to cede the most populous areas of the Avarad region to Shavakhotia, while Soptemia could retain the northern areas which contained higher concentrations of Soptenese indistrial and military facilities.
