At first Chinamese architecture was a copy of that in Qonklaks; something that should be copied from masters for its perfect form. During the XX period, a counter-movement in art started, which sought to eliminate all foreign influences from Chinamese art and culture. This also affected Chinamese architecture. Many buildings were demolished since they were seen as symbols of foreign power and replaced with newer buildings.
