The Malas Empire (Ṃalaci: Bna Ṃalas [b.na ʘalə]), officially the The Imperial State of Ṃalas, was a country located in the region of Soltenna in Miraria stretching from Lake Soltenna to the east.

Etymology

History

Hetan tribes

The early Hetan communities originally migrated from Qgam and lived in communes in the Ungagon mountains.

Reth Era

Reth the Conqueror was born in Umasi around 600 CE. He led his army in the conquest of Central Soltenna, imposing Hetan authority over the mountainous region. The furthest Reth's army traveled was to the border of Qgam, Mai Thi, and Southwest Liosol. Upon his death, Reth's youngest son Gose inherited the Hetan lands. He adopted his father's title, becoming the first Reth and first ruler of the Malas Empire.

Decline

The Malas Empire began its decline in the 10th century after a succession crisis fractured much of the country. The city of Granas, the third most populous in the Empire, was de facto independent and the traditional Huy En territory, led by the Reth's third cousin, would not aid the Empire in any more campaigns. Due to these factors, the Kingdom of Setole captured the southern territories and began a campaign against Malas.

The Empire capitulated in the summer of 1098 after being forced to the Kethn River.

Legacy

The impact of the Malas Empire is still felt in modern independence movements in Liosol's Hetan communities. Its legacy can also be seen in the names of citizens of the Hetan nations. The legality of polygamy in the Malas Empire led to multiple heirs to the imperial throne, a cited source for the Empire's downfall. However, this is the reason that the surname Reth (alternatively Rid in Huy En) is the most common last name, with over 74 per cent of Huy En's population using it.
